My aunt had two very spoiled pomerianians for over 6 years. One was a female and one was a male. Well about 1 month the male pomerianian was run over by a car. It seems that ever since then the female has been very sad. She whines constantly and will not eat. She just had a check up about 1 year ago and we know she's healthy. What can we do to help her?

Hi Loli, if she has been at this a year, I am afraid that the only answer is another companion. There are Pom rescues so if you want to get one about her own age, that is an option. I do rescue and most poms come in either as a stray, or the owner has health issues and can no longer care for their pup.
Here is a link to help you on your search. I am sorry for your loss.

http://www.petfinder.com/ go to the left click dog, put in Pom, etc. and your zipcode. Good luck!

Edit: sorry I misread. it has been a month, not a year. Just try to keep her busy, give her lots of extra attention and try to find her a new friend to play with. If this goes on for more than a few months, I'm afraid that the only solution is to get her a companion.

I think you should go out and buy another male Pomerianian for her and then if that still don't work then buy her some new stuff and try and buy differnt food 4 the dog and buy her some new toys groom her everday (if u don't) and play alot and then she might forget about her lost friend

A lot of things can change in one year. You need to start with a check up at the veterinarians just in case she is ill.

If she is well, then you have to allow her time to grieve. She may be sensitive to your aunts state of mind, and often animals will take their clue from our emotional state.

I lost a dog to cancer a few years ago. I had a puppy at the same time .For 6 weeks, the puppy didn't want to go for his walk because he was looking for our other dog to join him. Each time, he kept turning to look back at the house. Every time we returned from our walk, he went to all the favorite places of the other dog to look for her. Finally one day, he just walked with me. He is happier now, but every now and again he will find a toy under the sofa or some other item with her scent on it. He just snuggles down on it, and we both feel sad together for a while.

Loss is very difficult for all of us.

AW WW I am so sorry. You know this is going to take place for awhile. The same thing happen to me, instead I had shi-tzu's and he didn't die someone took him. Can you believe that. Anyway I never got another one but i did give my dog to my aunt who was older and who had more time to spend with her than me. besides my aunt needed a companion well (smile) i suggest two things get her another dog one of her age or you have to pay more attention to her. Good Luck.

get another dog..... Been thru this lots of times.... it is always sad... Introduce them in a neutral area, walk for an hour together, come in side together, go out again, spend time with them... Don't just bring a new dog home and plop it in front of the older one..... take some time to introduce them, each on a leash.... We usually take two hours walking them together in the yard, in the house, in the street, in the park, and then do it all over again......

With my greiving dog I had to purchase another puppy. I also ended up getting some books from www.savannahsmilespetique.com on grieving. I think my emotions was being reflected on the dog.

Another dog. Or a dog to play with on a regular basis.

Yep, go to the shelter and get another small dog, about the same age.

There is not much that you can do. Just give it time. She'll get over it, just like you or I would...over time. Good luck though.
