I just got hired at a local sitters agency and I have my first interview tonight. We're having dinner at the parent's house.

I was an assistant teacher at my high school in our daycare program but there were also about 15 minutes in that class.

I've never been to a "dinner interview" Does anybody have any ideas on how to present yourself during this kind of interview? Also something that may impress the parents? What kind of skills should I mention?

Also, they have 2 kids, 3 year old twins.. any ideas on motivation and fun things to do with 2 three year olds?

Thank you in advance :)

I am a parent that has actually had these kind of interviews and has another coming up. The most important thing is probably how you interact with the children. Do you have a good rapport with them. Does it look like you can have fun with them but also enfore discipline. Make sure you ask the parent lots of questions about schedules, what is expected of you, forms of disciplines. Get a good, clear idea of what they want you to do while watching their kids and they will know that you are willing to adapt to their needs and individual parenting styles. Remember, not all parents are alike. Some don't care if kids go to bed on time and others think it's the end of the world. After dinner, ask if they'd like you to help clear the table or if they'd prefer you spend time getting to know the children. That will show that you won't leave dirty dishes all over after feeding the kids and they won't come home to a messy house. I think an earlier answer mentioned bringing a special project or game of your own and I think that's also an excellent idea. Hope these suggestions help and good luck. A great sitter is hard to find so if you do well, you should have nothing to worry about.

Sounds like you should just be yourself.

If you have anything special that you do when you babysit (i used to bring my own coloring books, videos, crafts, and toys) than do it tonight. http://www.Fisherprice.com has great ideas for every age group. After you pick a project, bring all the suplies you will need with you.

Dress business casual (slacks and a nice shirt) (bring an apron if the project you pick is a little messy)

Ask questions too, i.e. bed times, forms of discipline. Asking and answering questions will give you a chance to talk about your skills without having to remember them.

Hope that helps, just take a deep breath and I'm betting you'll do great.

Always turn it around and look at it from their point of view. What would you expect if you were interviewing somebody for that position?
