I'm finally 16 and my mom's letting me get a tattoo. I just don't know what to get. I'm a sagittarius and i want an original tattoo. It doesn't have to be about being a sagittarius. So does anyone have any suggestions for a cute first tattoo. Also where should I get it?

You're not going to like this answer, but here it is:

If you don't have an image burning in your brain, DYING to be expressed in ink on your skin, don't get a tattoo. This is going to be with you for a long time. It should be meaningful and something you have thought about for at least a year and still love the idea of having tattooed on your body.

I completely agree with AnswerGirl... When I was 13 I decided that I wanted a little gecko tatoo. I saved the picture for years. The place of the tatoo changed but when I was 19 I finally got it and now at 24 I still love it. Note: I got it on my butt so that I know its there and people only see it when I'm wearing my bathing suit. And when I'm older, on a job interview, or in a wedding dress it is easly hidable. I figured if after all those years I still wanted it then I'll go for it. I suggest you do the same. What you like when you're 16 is going to be a lot different from what you life when you are 40.

i agree with ^^^^ try not to get a trendy tribal tattoo. Those after a few years wont look as hot (unless you are from an actual tribe which i know you arent). Get something with meaning to you. Look around a lot, go to different tattoo shops and look at what they have, so you can get a general idea of something that calls to you each time you visit a shop, there will always be one kind of tattoo that will stay in your mind, and thats the one you most likely should get. If not, maybe it will give you an idea of one you can think of on your own, your own design would be even hotter

If you don't know what to get or where to put it, don't rush it. You might not get the tattoo right away, but having a tattoo you like is much more important that just having one to say you got it. And you're only 16, so be careful what you picked because in two years, your tastes will change greatly and you might be unhappy with what you picked.

As far as what else to get, I don't know a single thing about you to make a suggestion, but find things that you like and that have meaning to you. Zodiac signs are good because they won't change over time.

Where to get it, that's up to you. If you are worried about what people might say about it, get it somewhere that's easy to show, easy to hide. If you are worried about wrinkles and the test of time, think of an area that doesn't go through a lot of change (back and foot usually)

My first tattoo was a butterfly on my foot. The reason I got it there is that it is easy to cover up but looks really cute when I am wearing strappy shoes or thongs (thongs in australia are something we wear on out feet, not a G-String!!)
The other tattoo I have is the star of David on my lower back. I got the star of David as my husbands name is David, and thought it would look better than having his name tattooed on me.
Think about things that mean a lot too you, these are the things you should consider getting tattooed. I love having the butterfly on my foot, after 8 years people still comment on how good it looks, and it is still pretty and delicate.
If you are good at drawing you could draw something to get tattooed onto you. Other things that I know people have gotten tattoos of are there initals, in other languages as well, also monograms on their initals, they are unique are look great.
Goodluck and let us know what you decide.

I agree with what a lot of people have said. Most say this out of experience. I have two and getting ready to get two more. I got mine on my back but I think the coolest one I have seen ever was two sisters got tattoos and the big sister got the Chinese symbol for big sister on her right hip and the little sister got the symbol for little sister on her left hip. They got it on the hip where stretch marks won't bother it and it's a place the can show and hide. I would wait though. At least until you have something in mind.

Also I know some people disagree but a tribal on the lower back at 40 is not hot if you have kids. Choose wisely.

You may not want to hear this, but here's my opinion:
If you don't know what kind of tattoo to get, you're not ready for a tattoo.
Don't let other people decide what you'll wear on your body for the rest of your life.
I have 7 tattoes, and each one signifies a special time in my life that I commemorated in this way.
You may like pink butterflies today, but perhaps they won't go well with you when you're 40.
Just wait until inspiration hits you - you see something of particular interest that you FEEL strongly about.
Any licensed tattoo shop with autoclave sterilization should be ok to use.

I hate to say it, but I agree with one of the aforementioned opinions- you really want to wait if you can't decide.

It's your skin, your body; it has to be something you REALLY want done, or you may very well regret it. Sure- you can have tattoos removed, but you have to think about the costs and risks of it.
Also, keep in mind MANY employers will NOT hire employees with visible tattoos! I've run into this problem more times then I can count- you may want to have one done where it can easily be hidden, say, somewhere on your back.
(I have a pair of wolf pawprints on my inner, left wrist and I've lost quite a few job opportunities because of them. I don't regret them, but it's something you have to keep in mind.)

Other then that, try looking at tattoo sites and getting a general idea. What animals do you like? Do you have a symbol that really expresses something about yourself? Wings are a pretty popular choice, faerie or angel; I'm planning on a pair of those myself some day.
If you like the fact your a Saggitarius, you might go for a stylized flame, or something dealing with fire!

I heard a quote once, to calm any fears that "you'll hate it someday":
Someone asked a woman who had a very large scarification of a phoenix across her chest what would happen if she came to regret it someday, and she said:
"I won't ever regret it. I realize it's a part of who I am now, and even if that changes someday, it's still a part of me. I wouldn't want to hide that any more then I do this."

Still, you want to be sure you'll enjoy what you get. So just be careful. Your imagination is the only limit! :)

Arms are the best bet but please, please don't walk into the tattooists and pick one off the wall. Imagine how many other people have had that tattoo done. Ive experienced bumping into someone with the same tattoo as me and its not funny. Pick a design of your own, something that means something to you whether its a cd/dvd cover or something from a magazine just make sure its something you will still appreciate in 30 years:)

I agree with most, if you cant think of one yourself then you are not ready to get one. Sounds like you only want one so youcan say "look I have a tattoo". Also I want to add that all states are different in age requirements. My step son has wanted a Cross for two years now, to symbolize his faith in Jesus Christ, I'm taking him to get it done for his birthday, March 5th, he will be 15. I myself have 24 tattoo's, each one has special meaning for me. Take your time, think about it some more, and dont rush into a very permanent decision.
