There are still monkeys because human beings need to have a good role model. Pick fleas, swing in the trees, eat mangoes, and if you're mad at somebody, make silly faces at them until they back off.

We could do worse.

There are still monkeys because we didn't come from monkeys. I don't believe in the creationist theory either. I think both theories are wrong and there has to be a better one out there some where. If we came from monkeys then why don't we see some of the monkeys changing right now into humans? We only see monkeys and humans, not any of the in between forms.

LOL - I had the same idea....I just didn't follow up on it.

If anyone feels like playing, here's some good ones to choose from:

1. Why do atheists come to the R&S section? (Hey, it CAN'T be asked too often).
2. If you don't believe in god, how come you're not always killing people and stuff and sleeping around and stuff? (You could paraphrase this one by asking where atheists get their morals. I just wanted it to have an authentic flavor).
3. Pascal's wager.
4. To evolutionists: If the big bang was caused by gases, where did the gases come from?
5. Are you really here because you have a secret longing to be brought back to the arms of jesus?

Hard to believe, but I'm actually drawing a blank. And to think that yesterday I was this close to creating a FAQ that we could all share and use for cutting and pasting answers....

If you believe in evolution, then you must also consider the continuation of life. The monkeys you see will have their own time to become man like you. The Old monkey that became you is already lost and will die completely when your time to die comes.

I'm an old-earth creationist myself but I'll answer this from an evolutionist point of view. Modern day monkeys and ourselves share a common ancester, but we didn't descend from say Chimpanzees. It's like saying your dad is the common ancestor, and your brother would be a monkey and you'd be human.

Because some monkeys were smart enough to stay that way.. believe me, if australopithecus could have foreseen what we've become, I bet he'd have committed suicide to protect the entire planet from us.

Hey, don't blame me, I'm tired of answering this question with truth.. lol

Actually we all came from simple one celled organisms, and every thing after are mutated creatures that have reproduced and allowed their mutations to carry to the next generation. Billions of generations later here we humans are. Also evolution has not stopped. In about a thousand years all humans will look exactly alike, because of the shear fact that most people tend to reproduce with people that are similiar to themselves.

Why are there thousands of different birds?, There are many species that have evovled from a single branch on an animal family. That doesn't mean the rest will become extinct.

I have a dumb joke Sam T made up. He says:

"For years man thought they came from apes, but recent scientific advancements have proven that we do not actually come from apes, rather we come from monkeys."

Its a cheap one, and it does not accurately express the current theory of evolution, but it is entertaining.
