Ok, i have never had my liscense, only my permit. Two years ago my hubby was teaching me to drive and i had a horrible accident with my son in the car. I stoped at a stop sign and presceded to go thinking i had enough time but there was a truck doing 65 in a 25 and it t boned us. The seatbelt holding my sons car seat in ripped out and he ended up upside down in the front of the car. I thanks god every day that he was fine just a little scared. And i called the car manufaturer and they issued a recall. But i have not driven since. My hubby just got me a car for my birthday and i am wonder how to get over my fear of driving with my kids in the car. I shake so bad even at the thought of it. I often tell my hubby mabey i am just not ment to drive. Looking for other parents that had accidents and got over the fear of driving.

No way! Someone t-boned my mom and she waited a year to drive. We had a driving intructor re-teach her how to drive. It helped her gain her confidence.

Not driving is giving in to fear. You are stronger than that fear!

Your son needs for his mommy to drive him to the park, to pre-school and to Toys R Us. Get back in the car with a driving teacher and take it slow. You can do it!!

You have to get back behind the wheel...It's the only way you will overcome this fear.

One word of advice...my husband tried to get me to trade in my car for a more user friendly car when I had my baby...I drive a Lifted Chevy Silverado Extra Cab Truck....he wanted to put me in a Scion XB. (you know...the car that looks like a toaster?) UH I don't think so...I like those cars ...but no.

Let me tell you the size of the car ABSOLUTELY helps in confidence and safety...no one gets anywhere near me in my big red truck...I have to park in the boonies and walk across the whole parkinglot when we go to the mall...but my trucks so big that even if we did get into an accident...we'd be fine.

Look into a big vehicle...they are bad for the environment, and they are gas guzzlers and they are a pain to park...but I don't feel safe in anything else...

You'll probably feel better if you drive without him at first. I second the call for driver's ed, it'll help. In time you'll gain confidence and feel ok with taking your son in the car with you, until then, just practice on your own.
