Very small initials carefully embossed in a top-quality leather handbag: reasonably classy.

Anything else: reasonably tacky.

'Top-quality' = it should not have somebody else's name or initials on it. It should be a good bag, not a good designer.

I say classy, just as long as the bag is classy. Otherwise it would like you're entering high school or something.

If you get it on there and make the bag either pink or brown and have the other color like say you chose pink then have a brown lace tied to it and make it have pink spots. Or the other way. or make the whole bag pink and brown

I think it can be classy if it's done well. Don't do anything too large or gaudy. Keep it simple and pretty and I think you'll like it.

I think monograms are a classic, but usually for less formal bags. They are usually seen on more casual (LL Bean) styles, from my experience, but I think it's a nice look.
