I need to format and reinstall. Can I use my friend's Macbook CD, or will there be driver issues etc. with my Macbook Pro?

Yes you can. (as long as both are intel)
No driver issues.
That is just one of many reasons why Mac OSX blows Vista right into the loo.

There would only be one possible issue.

If he has a CDrom of OS X before the Intel duo chipset, and you have the newer Macbook Pro with the Intel Duo chips.

But, do not discount the Yellow Dog or the Ubuntu install discs that are FREE on the web. http://livecdlist.com and http://distrowatch.com

There are others that run on the Power PC chipset.
All are immune to the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions".and, also can run in the Boot Camp on the Intel chips.

It isn't legal, even if it works. Despite what conradj213 says, you can only install OS X on one computer at a time, unless it's the family pack. http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/

Are you sure that you need to reinstall? That's very rare on Macs. I suggest you post your actual problem on the forums at:

There's probably an easier fix than reinstalling.

By the way, all Macbooks and Macbook Pros have Intel chips in them. It's the ibooks and Powerbooks that have PowerPC chips.

But it is legal. Each retail copy of OSX can be installed and used on three computers in the same location. I'm not sure about the OSX versions that come with their computers but I see no reason why the licensing would be any different.
