My cat keeps on going out and then comes back (sometimes days later) smelling of other people. I think someone is locking him in their house and feeding him. Does anyone have any Ideas about pet tracking devices, can I rent them or something, how much do they cost ect ect...

Any help will be greatly welcomed. No stupid answers please :-)

You can get a gps tracking device to attach to them made especally for cats

Good luck, someone was doing this with my cat even though he had a collar. Made me so angry, he wouldn't come home for days.

There are some tracking GPS devices attached to dog collars. The trouble is they are too big and heavy for a cat. They are easy to use, but they cost a lot. Look in a search engine and you'll find some sites, but I am not sure if anything can be used on a cat.
also check www.thecatlocator.com. They sell a small and cheap device that you can track the cat with, as long as he doesn't go too far.

Dear Disappearing Cat Owner:

Having worked in the Animal Rescue/Foster business for 15+ years, I can offer you a few good ideas.

1. Have a "microchip" put under the skin on your cat's back (not painful); if someone finds your cat and takes it to any Vet or Pound, they MUST scan for microchips which will identify the cat and provide owner information.

2. Make sure you have CURRENT tags (rabies, city registration, personal info/pet's name) on your cat's collar. You might also add an additional tag that says "Reward if found - call xxx-xxxx". Rewards can be set at your discretion - from $10-$50 depending on how desperate you are to be reunited with your wandering feline.

3. Turn your indoor/outdoor cat into a strictly indoor cat - harsh as that may sound. It can be done. I've had to do it several times as 2 of my favorite cats were killed on our busy street, so I learned my lesson the hard way. Now all 3 of my cats are INDOOR ONLY... unless I take them out in the backyard with me and supervise, seriously. There's nothing worse than worrying and wondering where your beloved pet is - or if you'll ever see your cat again.

Those are 3 options. There may be a 4th (but I don't know how affordable for your budget). I believe that some parents today are having their elementary age children electronically monitored with tracking devices that are attached to the wrist like a bracelet or maybe on their shoe (in case they ever get abducted). You might call Best Buy or Circuit City... or even an upscale Pet Shop to see what you can find out (if you can't bring yourself to keep your cat indoors 24/7).

By the way, outdoor cats ultimately will adjust to being indoor only - with no negative affects on their disposition/behavior. I've rescued many cats (caught in the wild) domesticated them and they lived indoors without any problem.

Best of luck in finding the right solution for you and your cat.

Sincerely,

catwhisperer (aka Kim)

(name given to me by co-workers at Animal Rescue - I have a way with feral "born in the wild" cats - domesticating them).

If it's a male cat and he hasn't been neutered he is probably going to find females. I don't know of any kind of tracking devices you can get for a cat. The only thing I can say is don't let him out.

Best bet would be to neuter him if he isn't already and then keep him indoors. The only "pet tracking" device is the Home Again, but it's not used for what you want to use it for.

The cheepest, most simple answer: don't let your cat outside. Then you won't have to worry about where he is.
