It takes sacrifice, compassion, love, and patience. Many people in this world are so wrapped up in the issues of other countries we don't think to seek out our own injustices.
As a child who lived, if only for a brief moment, in the foster care system, I'd say we definitely need more loving families to open up their homes and hearts. That one family who takes care of a child as their own is never forgotten.
You have to remember, loving a child, whether it's your own or not, is a big sacrifice. You sacrifice many of your own dreams, your lifestyle, your spending habits, even (but hopefully not) your marriage. Some people aren't comfortable with making that committment. It's hard for a lot of people, because we tend to think of ourselves first.
If you want to help children, start in your home community. Don't go outside to help...although no one will deny the need for loving families outside of their own country. Dedicate time to volunteer with kids, even if it's just one hour a week, reading to the children.
It breaks my heart, because at the rate that society is going, we won't be able to save most of the children. I just hope the children we do save do a better job of saving their generations.

There are going to be some people in this world that can take care of other people's children and some who cannot. Just like there are some people who want to have children and some who don't. God made us all different and we have different functions in this world. I myself could take care of children with no problem, but my house is not the right inviroment for a child who has been tramatized in one way or another. I have an autistic son who is very aggressive and takes a lot of my attention. He is my only child and oh how I would love to have another, whether it was mine or not, but my home is just not the right place for raising someones child.
I care more than life will know. I am sure a lot of people do.

Before I became a mother myself it would have taken an act of Congress and promise of life long financial assistance to make be "care" for another child...... now that I'm a mom my heart is open to all children. If I see a child in the store that seems to not be treated the "best" (IE. dirty, hungry, being disciplined too harshly) I just pray that there would be something I could do to help that child.... so many I would have loved to take home and keep as my very own! (I work in a grocery store so you see all kinds of things... you would be surprised!) My husband and I have talked about adopting a child but 1) my hubby was adopted and he would like to have biological children so he can have some kind of blood relatives and 2) it's crazy expensive to adopt, and frankly I don't have that kind of $$$$$ to lay out.

I do it everyday with the two foster children I have living in my house and one that I still see / talk to who went home. It's not hard to love a child whether it's yours, your neighbors, your friends or a strangers...they are only children and I love them all the same!

If you're talking about orphanes or children that are in special programs, you can volunteer and give them some of your time and show them that there are still people in this world that care.
