ok, ive got the dentist a week today for a check up cos ive not been in so long and heres my teething problems!!

1. I would like my teeth whitened, what is the best way? laser? whitening kit? caps?

2. I would like the fillings that are gray and visable when i smile, to be white and the same colour as my (to be) whitened teeth. I have never had a white filling before, so i just need advice! if they are no good is there an alternative?

3. I have a crown, and when i get my teeth whitened, this will be a different colour wont it? so will i need it replaced?

4. I have an appointment next week with NHS dentist, who also do private. which is better? NHS or private, and what is the difference?

5. I am aware that this may cost some money for the treatment i want, however I do not want ripped off so any advise would be really appreciated.

Thank you so much!!

Ok, I'll do my best to answer you, but it is difficult to know exactly what you need as I haven't seen your teeth, but here goes.
1. The least invasive way of whitening teeth is to have them whitened. This involves a gel being put onto your teeth, which will change the colour of the dentine inside, making them whiter. You can have fast (in surgery) whitening or home whitening, or a combination of both. Generally the home whitening will take longer but cost less. The costs will depend on your dentist, but however it is done the end result will be the same.
2. White fillings are not available on back teeth on the NHS, and are more costly than metal ones usually. Also they do not necessarily last as long, although as ever this is variable as it depends on the dentist and their technique, as well as the patient and their cleaning and sugar intake. If I were you I would only have white fillings put in as replacements to fillings which NEED to be done, so eventually your teeth will be less metallic, without you having to have a lot of unnecessary work done and spending lots of money. But that's my view, and there are plenty who will disagree with me......
3. An old crown will not whiten, so If the crown matches your teeth now, you would need a new one after.
4. The dentist is the same whether NHS or private, but the time and materials available to them are better privately.

Good luck.

home bleaching (private) starting at £250.00

white fillings (private) starting at £60.00 depending on what tooth

yes white crown (private) starting at £300.00

register as a nhs patient but if you want white fillings, crowns you need to have private treatment as the nhs only does white on the front 6 teeth top and bottom
it also depends entirely where abouts in the country you live ie london will be more expensive than glasgow

If you are wanting to go NHS they won't do the cosmetic things you want doing, you'll only get the necessaries done. To go private is mega costly but if you were wanting some or all of the above done ask your dentist for a block price for all the work rather than doing bits here and there. But if you are going private get different quotes cos the price varies tremendously.

Perhaps a dental professional, your dentist for example, could answer these questions?
