Im going skiing for the first time in a couple of weeks with a group of friends. We're renting a bus and goin down for the day. This is my first time going and was looking for some help. Im in 10th grade by the way, if that makes a difference.

I was just looking for some advise, What to wear, What to bring, what to do? anything would be helpful.

Also one of my friends going is the girl i like. and also my best friend likes her as well. Is there anything i should do besides like trying to spend alot of time with her, that i should do to sort of give me the edge over my friend.

Once again anything would be great. Thanks!!

Well i'm pretty sure you lucked out because A. I am a Profesional Ski Instructor of America (PSIA) B. last year i was ranked #2 in the State of Maine for downhill slalom and C. I'm in 12th grade.

So first of all. What to bring. The best advice i can give is where some comfy WARM clothes there, u dont want to get on the bus all dressed up to go skiing then sit there for a couple hours. So bring what you need with you. What you'll need when you get there is a nice warm long pair of socks, preferably wool, long johns or comfy like PJ pants (skiing in jeans is very umcomfortable), snowpants that fit but are a little baggy. An underlayer depending on the weaher, ranging from a t-shirt to underarmor, a comfy overshirt, pretty much anything. An finally a nice (preferably waterproof) jacket. Now, as a ski instructor i HIGHLY RECOMEND a helmet. So when you're getting your rental skis and boots see if they have any helmets. You're also going to want some goggles or a pair of sunglasses.

Now, about the skiing. The best advice i can give is TAKE A LESSON. We know what we're doign and you won't regret it. If you want to impress your girl, be flirty, ask her to take a lesson with you. Fortunately, there is no better line on a girl then "you know how to ski?" "No" "would u like to learn?" I've used it many times. But if you're not up for a lesson, there are a bit of basics. First of all, forget the ski poles, u dont need them. The first thing any skier learns is "The Wedge" basically, you want to bring the front of your skis together WITHOUT crossing them and seperate the backs as much as possible. making a V. You can control your speed by varying the length between the backs of your skis. To stop, simply make your V as big as possible. Turning is a little more difficult. To turn there is a trick we use called "majic buttons". To use it pretend there is a button under each on of your big toes. To turn RIGHT, push your LEFT button, to turn LEFT, push your RIGHT button. That should get you started. Now remembre, no one likes the guy who goes up to the top of the MT. his first time (espeically the ski patrollers). So start small. Most Mts. have a beginners area or a small hill to practice on, so use it. IF people give you a hard time, just tell them you'ld rather look like a pro down here, then a fool up there. Girls love confidence, so be confident ABOUT YOUR SKILL LEVEL, don't be stupid and try to show off to her. She'll notice, and you'll look like a fool and your friend will be the one snuggled up on the bus ride home. It might take a good solid hour to master standing on the skis, and moving around. You shouldn't expect to get up the chair lift the first day. Your girl will love that you don't give in to other peoples pressure. So just be yourself, dont try to act like your a good skier.

I hope this helps man. Skiing is an awesome sport. I've been doing it my entire life, im even going to Utah next week to jump out of a helicopter 15 feet in the air onto a mountain no one has ever skied. However, it took me years and years to learn to ski, and i was on my first pair of skis at age 2. Take it slow man, you'll do fine. And remember, be confident, be yourself, and have FUN.. cause thats what skiing is alllll about. Peace.

Sort of depends on where you go and how cold it will be. The necessities are a ski jacket, ski pants/bib, ski gloves, and thermal socks. If it is going to be lower than 20 degrees I would recommend getting thermal shirts to wear under the jacket and some thermal underwear. It's also nice to have either goggles or sunglasses if it's going to be coming down hard. Oh and don't forget the chapstick. Other than that you're pretty much set. If you are into sports and feel you'll succeed I'd recomend getting 150-160 cm skis. If you're hesitant go for 130-140 to start. Have a great time and good luck.

As for the thing with the girl...you're on that your own. hard to tell when no one else knows the party. Just don't be too annoying and competitive. if your friend really likes her than go after someone else. There are plenty women out there, no need to lose a friendship over it. Bros before Hoes

Okay you want to look jiggy so good looking sweaters are ideal. Don't carry so many things make sure you bring jeans and take some insulated boots. Believe it or not it isn't that cold out in the ski world. I always have fun just bring ski vest and sweaters and cool hates. You will be fine . Go to a ski shop and get ideas.

Wear fleece (it's warm and it dries quickly.)
Don't wear jeans (They're cold and become even colder and heavy when wet.) Borrow some ski pants or wear rain pants with sweats underneath.
Ski gloves and a cool hat.

Take a lesson the first day.
Then ask the girl to ski with you and give you some pointers.

Borrow clothes in case you don't like it.

Take a lesson and say goodbye to your friends for the day. You will make more progress with the girl if you don't make an idiot of yourself, and skiing without lessons is exceptionally dangerous.

You men truly do have the astounding snow! it really is a lot prettier accessible than different places, mutually with Michigan. Utah's also truly extremely in the different seasons. Even interior the spring... the meltdown!

Goggles, don't forget goggles. Cheap ones if your only going this once, but some super bling ones might impress the girl (but not if you're in a sweater-vest combo and jeans). But who cares, I skied for years in jeans, when you don't know any better, it's still fun!
