cottage chesses is so named bebause when in the years gone by the farmer and his wife made the cheese 4 market the wives of the farm hands helped the process as a return they were paid with the excess curd from the cheese making process. so on returning 2 there tied cottages on the farmers estate they store the excess curd it was never good enough 2 produce firm cheese only wet mix but they ate it anyway!!! hope that helps?

Years ago it was one of the easiest and cheapest cheeses to make,so housewives made it at home for a cheap nutricious way of feeding the family. As poorer people,they lived in cottages it became known as cottage cheese.

Because originally the cheese was allowed to ferment in a public lavatory. The byproducts of cottaging were mixed into the fermenting milk to improve its flavor

Not sure, probably first made in a cottage somewhere but the name 'Farmhouse' was more than likely already taken.
