What are the major differences between the Buddha as he is presented in popular culture and the presentation about the Buddha and Buddhas in religious text?

In Pop culture he is fat, lazy, basically a complete glutton, he laughs all day long and bangs on drums.

As per religious texts, he is ascetic.

Another good question to ask is, what are the major differences between pop culture concpets of Buddhism and religious concepts of Buddhism.

I don't know that there is one really. There's just many different representations based on the cultural values of the proponents. Maybe give a clear example of what you mean?
