I know that most of us do not fully understand the supernatural and I will not claim that I do, therefore I cannot fully discredit the fact that this could happen today but logically speaking:

I feel that people that act out in evil ways are not possessed by the devil but yet give into evil behavior/s (make a choice) which stems from evil or morbid thought patterns (desensitizing) that may manifest in different ways from different environmental stimulus throughout their life course. The person feeds these thoughts for “whatever reason” (operative words here) which basically promotes mental and emotional illness.
A person that has not been guided by a structured, loving family and one that has dealt with mental, emotional and/or physical abuse could distort the difference and at a certain point believe they are possessed by the devil. For some, blaming the devil would be an easy way out and keep one from dealing with their personal issues (which could be unbearable). In my opinion, evil actions are a cry for help.
Throughout the course of our lives we must tend to (analyze) the “ill” effect of our environment on a mental and emotionally level and understand how it effects us and correct it before we are completely desensitized and act out physically.
During to course of our lives we all need to be fed certain things in order to be made “whole”, in order for us to mature properly on a mental, emotional and physical level.
I know that our bodies respond chemically to various environmental stimuli that over a long period of time can change us which could lead anyone from one extreme, euphoria to another, mental illness. It’s all according to what we are subjected to as a child (uncontrollable) and what an adult subjects themselves to (controllable) and how we deal with it all in between.

I also believe that some people are prone to mental illness due to various chemical imbalances that are beyond their control (genetic), which requires professional intervention.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Yes, but only if they have given prior consent. And it need not be explicit. Fortunately, Christians are protected against this.
