I had dry scaly elbows. I use St. Ives Apricot face scrub and then afterwards use a good lotion like Jergens or Lubriderm...it took a little while, but they're silky smooth now!

If you watch the Tyra show, you must have heard about this...
Apply a layer of Crisco (shortening) to your elbows and slip a sock with the toe cut off over it. Leave it on overnight and take the sock off in the morning. The skin will be much softer.
You can also do this with baby oil, olive oil and vaseline...same method, leave the sock on overnight.
Thanks for the thumbs down. I just gave you a suggestion that actually works!

i read all the answers you recieved, and whichever one you chose, im sure it will work, but there is a BIG SECRET no one mentioned...
the skin is softest and has the most moisture in it right after you get out of the shower. what i do is pat dry my whole body with a soft towel and rub lotion over my whole body within 5 mins of getting out of the shower. doing this LOCKS IN MOISTURE. its very pointless to try to ADD moisture to your skin. if you use an oil (or cooking ingredient) all you are doing is making your skin oily, and silly as it sounds, that will inevitably dry you skin out furthur. i use aveeno lotion and it has worked wonders. i have a similar problem to yours, i have dry elbows also, but my feet are the really big problem. i have to exfoliate my feet every day, and use a pumice stone once a week. (and lotion every day right after i get out of the shower) you probably dont want to know about my feet but the point i am trying to make by telling you that is you have to do it regularly.
here is what i recommend:
go get yourself whichever lotion product you feel comfortable using (just not an oil). i highly recommend aveeno, but thats up to you.
when you are almost done with your shower, exfoliate your elbows (and any other problem areas if you have them). by doing this at the END of your shower it will be most effective because your skin will be soft and easier to manage.
when you get out of the shower, apply your lotion. i liked the sock thing i read from one of the other answers and i will be trying this next time i shower. the reason that caught my eye is because after i put lotion on my feet, i put my socks on immediately. if i didnt put the socks on, my feet would dry out completely in a few hours. so i will definitally be trying socks on my elbows to lock in extra moisture.
good luck and happy elbows! :)

Put a cream or oil on them. Such as hemp cream from the body shop or monoi oil from the body shop. Both of these are good for extra dry skin. Be sure to scrub off the dead skin first with a body scrub - bath and body works has a lot. Good Luck!

you should moisturise them daily but you should also use microdermabrasion on them to make them softer. it will take time but it'll work. if you want a cheap at home microdermabrasion you can take a bit of fragrance free lotion and some arm and hammer baking soda and just rub it in, the baking soda will exfoliate the skin gently.

for white and smooth elbows take a lemon and cut in half and rub it while taking a bath every day and u will get good results for sure. for more better results you can make ur own cream at home and i have tried it and also my friend used to have dark black spots on her hands and i gave her to try some of it and the day after she told me that the spots disappeared
how to do the cream?
mix together:

Exfoliate with a sugar and lemon scrub and then rub olive oil into the affected spots. Moisturize the area every day and repeat the olive oil treatment as you see fit.

Use lotion consistently. Try to look for dry skin lotion or deep penetrating, so that it will be less water based. Use it whenever you feel like your skin is dry. It's going to take consistency, but eventually they will smooth out.

what i usually do is mix some coarse sea salt with olive oil (or almond oil is really moisturising) and use it as a scrub on my elbows, wash it off and slather on E45 cream. usually works for me.
