Of course ... it's a contrived epidemic. I'm sure that many people years ago ... were just as depressed as we are today. It's just that they either couldn't afford the doctor or ... there was no doctor available to diagnose them.
People were probably more inclined to be so tired at the end of the day from toiling in their labor that .... they were too tired to spend hours focusing on their problems or perceived problems. Less time to think about "Me".
Depression is a billion dollar industry so ..... that's another incentive to keep it growing.
Truly, depression is a serious concern ... and many inroads ... therapy, and chemical aids have been developed to combat this dreaded conditon. Only thing is ..... there will always be a percentage of the population that will use it as a crutch ... exploit it and ..... feed off of the system by using it. This is another problem.

unfortunately, yes it will. so many things are going on in this world that are negative and people just can't help but to be down and out. if we only had a way to go back into time and change a lot of things, this world would be a lot better place. there are far too many "checks and balances" in this world to be able to keep your head above water. laws in the u.s. is supposed to be there for the betterment of the people who live there but anymore it seems like they are there to keep people in misery and distain. anymore a person who is trying to do right, be an upstanding citizen, and a role model to others cannot survive on their own. this is because in this day and age people doing what they are supposed to do is the exception instead of the rule. this is part of the problem with this country. people would rather look out for themselves and no one else even if it means screwing someone else over. it is only going to get worse as people will never wake up and see this problem. they only thing that we can do is do the best that we can with what we have and try to slow down the process of the world getting worse for the future generations who have no choice but to inherit the problems of the world. this is neither fair or just but that is the truth and until we find world peace and can live as one then there is nothing else that we can do. hope this helps. good luck.

One of the reasons depression is increasing is due to increasing rates of physical health problems. Depression often comes along with problems such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, which are all increasing. There are also more reasons in the modern world for people to be depressed. Studies have proven that reading/watching too much news can cause depression in some people.

Depression's contagious now? Is that this year's pandemic? SADS!
If people spent less time trying to express how they feel, and more time building something with their hands, they wouldn't even realize they'd found a sense of purpose, self-worth, and downright happiness.

Probably, if people are forced to work more and more with less time for their families and things they enjoy. We're so stressed out these days we never get a chance to just hang out and enjoy ourselves. And it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

Yes, it will, being in one currently, treated with numerous medication, it will depends on if doctors can do something to help it genetically, and society will let off on kids. All kids today are pushed to be better and better, never good enough. Because of this, the worst is yet to come.

Some psychiatric health workers diagnostic questionaires are worded, so that no matter how you answer, you are diagnosed with some level of depression.
I think the problem is more of doctors scamming people into getting treatment and taking pharms. than people actually being clinically depressed.

As society isolates its members more, and as the system values of the west continues to push for false values that have little to do with what truly makes humans happy (empty materialism, mindless competition, toys that amuse but don't fulfill, status, etc...), I'd have to say yes.
