Jesus was not seeking them out, they simply appeared with him before Peter, James and John. Moses was the Lawgiver and represented the Torah. Elijah, the prophet who figured so prominently in the First Book of Kings, and who went to heaven in a firey chariot, represented all the prophets. It was not a time for prayer but for revealing the true nature of Jesus, one who was greater then the Law and the Prophets together. They faded and he remained.

This miracle was mostly for the Apostles benefit to give them a real experience of who Christ really was, Jesus deliberatly chose to take the main players with Him,Peter,James and John.
This is also the great revelation that Jesus was the fufillment of the Law of Moses and of the Prophets.

Jesus, Moses and Elijah all held certain priesthood keys (or authority if you will) that needed to be given to Peter, James and John to lead the church after his death.
Matthew 16:
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I think he wanted Peter and John and James to see him in his glory and I also think it was a statement about the Earthly priesthood being a representation of the Heavenly priesthood with him being the High priest.

thats so childesh .... nonsense ... great disbelief in god .... to think that jesus is god or gods son
Jesus wasn't born yet when moses came ....
Jesus is a prophet same as moses ...
Jesus was created by god without a father ... same like adam who was created without a mother too ...... whom was more difficult for god to creat Adam or Jesus .... ?
do u consider adam the son of god too ....
what about eve ... she was the daughter ....
if no ..... why ?
Jesus never said that he's god or gods son
open your mind ... and try to think in that

If jesus/god was a real person and truly divine, then he/she would probably talk to a prophet directly so that there is no question about what his/her will is.

I think he was asking them if they were sure that God told them that these were the chosen people.
By that time anyone would have been having doubts.

I think they had a craps game going and some apostles walked up on them so he was like 'uh.... I am god... and stuff.... pay no attention to the coins on the ground... look up here at me.... ooh... I am god...' then when they left he was all...'Yo, Eli and Mo.... come on boys, let's roll these bonez"......
