You could but I don't think its advisable. Why can't you just be patient and wait till the baby arrives?

Think it through first. If you absolutely can not wait the remainder of your pregnancy then think of the following before you proceed:
The main concern with getting a tattoo during pregnancy is the risk of contracting an infection, such as Hepatitis B and HIV. Although the risk is small, it is recommended that you wait to get a tattoo after your baby is born.
You will be very interested to know that little information is available about the safety of skin dyes used for tattooing during pregnancy. It is possible that the chemicals in the dye may affect the development of the baby during the first 12 weeks, but the risks are unknown, as are any effects on the baby during the remainder of the pregnancy.
Some women may have also heard that if they have a tattoo on their back, then they will be unable to get an epidural. Very few studies have been done on the risks that could exist for women who have back tattoos and receive an epidural. So far none of these studies have conclusively found any data that shows that there are risks, so most anesthesiologists have no problem giving an epidural to a woman with a back tattoo. If you want an epidural and have a tattoo on your back, it still would be best to contact the hospital and find out the policy in regard to tattoos and epidurals.
The risk of contracting an infection is small, but you could pass the infection to your baby if you are breastfeeding. Ultimately it's your decision, but you may want to wait until you are not breastfeeding to get a new tattoo.

u should prob wait until after you have your baby - most artists will not tattoo a pregnant woman or a woman that is nursing. My artist will tattoo if you are a nursing mom and uses brand new everything with all tattoos but he will not tattoo you if you are pregnant. You have to be extra careful because you're exposing your system to outside materials - therefore, you're also exposing the fetus to those materials too. In addition, because getting a tattoo is stressful on the body, you don't want your body reacting to the panic it has to react to when receiving the tattoo or the ink being put in your body...even if it is just below the dermis level...it's still in your body.

I'm not sure if its safe or not regarding the actual ink aspect of tattooing. (not to mention potential diseases if the needles are not clean)
But one thing I do think you should consider is how much your body changes during pregnancy. Weight gain, water retention, stretch marks etc. your tattoo may get stretched out, and when you loose the weight after pregnancy, its not likely that your skin will go back exactly as it was before. This means that your tattoo could become all misshapen and deformed.
I love tattoos too, but I would recommend waiting till after pregnancy so that you have a better shot at it staying nice the way it was originally done.
Good luck!

I got a tattoo before I found out I was pregnant. I was in the first trimester. I asked my OBGYN and he said that is fine, and your baby won't come out green or blue (main colors of my tat). He knew the tattoo shop and the artist and wasn't worried about unclean tools. I had the tat done on my back and the doctor that gives the epidural said that my tat was fine, and wouldn't bother anything. As for the tattoo artist I asked why it said in big print "IF YOU ARE PREGNANT PLEASE SAY SO".....He said for three reasons, 1. if the tat is going somewhere that could be strecthed he would rather wait. 2. women sometimes have a lower pain tolerance and he won't put them in pain because it might cause early labor, and 3. hormones are high- he wouldn't want you to do something to your body that you will regret. (also he assistant reminded him about a chance of infection).
I didn't know I was pregnant yet and my tat is fine and my little girl is fine. I would wait though. Just to stay safe. Your kids are more important than ink work is.

Yes you can but most tattoo artists will not tattoo a pregant woman for the fact that anyone can have a bad reaction to the ink which could intern affect the baby , also the risk for infection also could affect the baby.
Your best bet is to be honest and call around see what the local artists are willing to do or who they may be able to refer you to.
Good luck !!

I'm not for or against tattoo's but why not wait until after your baby is born. When you're pregnant you have some pretty wild hormones going on. You just might feel differently after your baby's birth.

I asked the same question and I got a bunch of hate answers saying I'm not ready to be a mother. I think you can. Just get it done before you start to show because most tattoo artists wont do it if your pego. I see no problem with it.

No, you don't want to run the risk of infection. Not to mention your body's chemicals are all out of wack. You don't need a bad tattoo because your body couldn't handle it.
Wait, make it special. If you plan to breastfeed you may want to talk to your artist. Some will do it while others won't.

I wouldnt do it once you more then 7 month pregnant but um why not before that? Now i do know some very simple and sounds like harmful procedures may be very dangerous to a young mother, i. e. dying hair, so i would check on the whole tattoo thing. To be honest it doesnt even have to be a doctor. Most of tattoo artists are very certified so you should let them know your situation before you start. And of course you already know not to get anything done on a belly. Good luck!

you shouldn't because of the POSSIBLE risk involved with infections, blood poisoning and other diseases. BUT in some cultures women get tattooed when they find out they are pregnant because they feel it makes the baby strong.
