What grosses me out is not receiving Christ's flesh and blood, but having to receive It from the hand of someone who has just shook hands with a dozen people. Yuck!

I don't take it anymore but I still can answer your question on the cannibalism thing. Even Jesus himself did not cut his wrist to let blood flow into his cup and did not cut any portion of his flesh to ask his disciples to eat. He used the real bread and the real wine to represent his flesh and blood respectively. The flesh stand for his teachings to be digested by his disciples and blood stands for works and sacrifices that his disciples will be doing when they start their missions.
Did you see any priest or pastor prepare meat of any kind or blood of any animals or man? In most parties maybe but not in the communion rites. And I guess you have been eating meat of cows too including all those that comes from slaughterhouses.

When I was living the christian life I just enjoyed the little buzz I got off the wine. That was when I was about 10 or 11.

No, not at all. I love Holy Communion. Unlike food in this world where we eat it and it becomes part of us, When we receive Holy Communion at Mass we become part of him. It is not the same as what you think.

that's only if you believe in transubstantiation...

or consubstantiation - which i guess would only be a LITTLE less gross.

i'm a memorialist, so it's all a symbol to me. you know, like a metaphor used to help commemorate Christ's life and death.

Yeah. I thought it was kind of fun when I was too young to understand what was happening, but now I find it to be disturbing.

Eat Jesus
Drink his blood.

Sounds vampiric.
