I'm possibly going to watch some kids while I'm home with my own. The ages vary but all are under one year. All are part-time. Is $8 a hour sound fair to you? Or should I be charging more? I don't want to get into it and have a tough time and regret giving parents such a break.

How part time. If it is just a few hours here and there then i would charge 10. If it is a set schedule I think I would consider a weekly rate i think anything under 30 hours $100 a week would be resonable and anything between 30 - 40 $ 150 any over time charge accordingly. If you are considering this being your business don't sell yourself short. Childcare is a very important job you are taking care and responsibility for someone elses # 1 thing in there life so they can work you should make enough money for you to live comfortable enough to be able to continue to stay home with your own child.

I pay my sitter 5 and hour, and that is on the high end for my area, most child care centers in my area charge 40 a day but I guess it all depends on how many kids, and where you are. bigger cities you can probably charge more but small towns like mine, and you would be considered very pricey.

$8 is cheap. Daycare around here is higher for babies because they cant feed themselves and require diaper changes. I would at least charge $10 an hour.

In most states you have to be licensed to babysit in your home and charge money for it. If these parents want to claim the money they pay you as a daycare expense on their taxes, then you will also have to claim it as income or you could end up in trouble.
