Use a compass, or something capable of drawing a circle. Draw a horizontal line across the equator of the circle....then draw a line down the meridian. Then draw lines in between those from one edge to the other. Now, connect the points where the lines intersect the circle. Perfect octagon..

Lets see, so we have a regular octagon, meaning all the side lengths are the same. And one side length is 8, and an octagon is an 8 sided figure... An octagon has 8 sides each 8 yards long, what's the perimeter? I think you can figure the rest out.

with a ruler, and a compass, and a PENCIL, not a pen. its all about internal and external angles. Theres 8 sides, and you can have 6 triangles within your octagon - angles in a triangle add up to 180, so 6 lots of 180 is 1280. so total internal angles add up to 1280, each angle has to be equal since its a regular polygon so each angle internal should be 160?
Not sure if this is correct, but i think it is - can't check myself im afraid. hope it helps

Superimpose two identical squares atop one another. Rotate one of them 45 degrees. Cut off the corners. Viola! An octagon.
