Right above my upper lip I have black hairs. It's not alot, just on each side. My brother makes fun of me and calls me whiskers. I asked my mom what I can do and she said shaving it or waxing it wouldn't be best cause it'll grow back thicker. She suggested we bleach it. Would that be good? What do you suggest?

hair doesn't grew back thicker when saved, this is an urban myth. Hair type and shade is predetermined by your genetic make up, it will be what it is regardless of shaving or not. Shaving does not interfere with the genetic code of a hair

Sorry to say it, but your mother is wrong. Shaving and waxing do not make hair grow back thicker. Shaving is simply cutting the hair at the skin. Cutting the hair on your head doesn't make it thicker, does it? Waxing actually does make the hair come back finer in some people. After the hair is repeatedly pulled out at the root, it tends to come back weaker and thinner. If you bleach it, the hair will still be there, you will still feel it, and it will be seen in the light. If you are against the idea of shaving and waxing, depilatories (Like Nair) are a good, although smelly, alternative. Get one that's formulated for your facial hair. It comes with a little brush that makes application easy, and you can use it to shape your eyebrows as well. One container of depilatory will cost a few dollars and will last for a long time.

Sure you can bleach it. That will probably be the best move because you won't have to worry about regrowth.
The last time I was in the salon the stylists, myself and another girl were talking about the benefits of that over waxing. The girl was having hers bleached while we all talked about it. She said that she had tried it all in the past and that waxing causes the potential problem of ingrown hairs, and so did tweezing.
I wish I could speak more about it to help, but I don't have any personal experience with it. I thought maybe the snippet of the conversation might help.
Take care, and I hope you find a method that makes you happy!
:)

Laser is actually the best because you only need about 6 treatments then the hair never comes back. But if that's not an option, waxing would be the next best option because the hair that comes back is thinner. Bleaching is okay if you don't have a lot of hair. It will just be like blond hairs on your upper lip instead of black.

Waxing would be best in my opinion, because it lasts for a few weeks, and the hair does not come back thicker. Actually, it can come back thinner and over a long period of time some of the hair may never come back.

waxing, shaving, and even bleaching will discolor your skin over time and make your upper lip look darker even if you don't have hair there anymore. You best bet is to find a window in your house that gives you good light and pluck the hairs out with tweezers.

I suggest waxing it because bleaching it will just grow more , even thought u will have to get it waxed once and while it will still be better

waxing is the only way to go... i knew a girl once who bleached, and it just looked like she had a blonde stache. not cool. plus, the whole "grows back thicker" thing isn't really true - besides, it doesn't matter if it's thicker if you're just gonna wax again, right?

you could also move to europe - they might dig it over there....

its truly a hassle to wax or shave it and it will become a big probelm when u get married cause you will have to do it every week since hair grows back thicker everytime shaved so unless its really noticeable when you rub ur finger on ur upper lip forget about it

When I first started out with this nasty mustache thingie I tried bleaching and you know what happened, I ended up with a white mustache that showed even more. If it is in your genes to deal with this terrible curse my Friend, I highly suggest waxing.
