The moment you drive off the lot the value of the car goes down because it is considered previously owned or "used."

A car is new until you drive it around the block after you financed it. A couple grand is knocked off right there. Now then, if something happens to it, right after you buy it , it should not cost anything to fix it because it is under warranty. As far as insurance, if it is totaled, it can be equally replaced as long it was full coverage.

i am a finance director for a dealership. once the papers are signed it is officially sold. but you have to take delivery of the vehicle from their lot. if you never take delivery, its not yours. the final call is when the vehicle is titled. i can put a car in demo status and have someone drive it for months and put 3-4k miles on it and its still a new vehicle because it hasnt been titled.

The car is technically new until you S.I.G.N. the papers in the Finance Manager's office. You don't even have to drive it.

Once the ink is on the paper, it is now SOLD and therefore "used".
