Remember BRAT: bananas, rice, apple juice, toast. Anything else will be too acidic and cause you more, um, trouble. Z-packs are antibiotics and wreak havoc on most people's digestive system. Hang in there, it won't last forever.

what people (including your doctor) usually forget is that it is the GERM that determines whether the antibiotic will work at all. There is no such thing as a strong antibiotic and a weak one -- there is just the right antibiotic for the job at hand. Is penicillin a weak antibiotic - NO. For syphilis, for streptococcal infections, there is nothing stronger in the world. But for a VIRAL infection, it would have no activity at all. Azithromycin is a rather horrible antibiotic -- really very little useful activity at all except against some very odd bacteria like legionaire's disease, mycoplasma, chlamydia, MAI. You did not say what your infection was - but I'd bet that we are talking about either a cough (which means you have viral bronchitis), or sinus congestion (which means you have a cold). Neither amoxicillin NOR azithromycin have any benefit in these situations. If you do have a cold, regardless of how long your cough or sinus congestion is, you will get better on your own. Use a decongestant and a cough medicine. Stop the antibiotics -they cannot help you - they will only cause more side effects (like nausea and diarrhea from the azithromycin), and will empty your wallet.

What should I avoid while taking azithromycin?

Do not take antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after you take azithromycin. This includes Acid Gone, Aldroxicon, Alternagel, Di-Gel, Gaviscon, Gelusil, Genaton, Maalox, Maldroxal, Milk of Magnesia, Mintox, Mylagen, Mylanta, Pepcid Complete, Rolaids, Rulox, and others. These antacids can make azithromycin less effective when taken at the same time.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking azithromycin and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Azithromycin can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.

That's a really strong antibiotic. It made me really sick when I took it for a sinus infection too. You should always take it with something to eat. That's the best way to avoid an upset stomach.

Actually, the z-pack is the best medicine to be on, however, it has horrible side effects. Eat a lot of yogurt with asidopholus in it (usually natural like Stonyfield). It will help your digestive tract.

This medication has to be taken on an empty stomach. You should take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Unfortunately, that is a side effect of many antibiotics. If it upsets your stomach, take it with some food. For the diarrhea, get some Imodium.

call the doctor and tell him. some people cannot tolerate the z pack. doc should replace it with something like amoxicilin (however, most antibiotics will give everyone a touch of the runs)

You need to eat when you take the medicine. Some pepto won't interfere with it, just make sure when you take your one pill a day for the rest of the week to eat before you take it.
