He already is missing fur in his face, I'm worried, but he likes to keep warm.

If your cat keeps going and burning himself on the rad, and not learning that "hey that hurts!!!" Maybe you should think about some kitty proofing...

Personally I would try a hardware store, ask if they have something you can place over the rad that will not interfere with the heat exchange..I would imagine they might for child proofing..Might be able to double as kitty proofing too!

If you add only a screen..you know cats they will find some way to knock it over, jump over it..So maybe something that will fit close to the rad, or around it..

Pick up some double sided sticky tape and run it the whole length of the radiator on the front lip and front face of the radiator. Cats hate anything sticky and he will avoid that icky feeling. Also, there is a product called Stay Off that is sold at most pet stores that you can spray on say a rug that may be in front of the heater, then he won't want to go that way because it stinks. This product sells for about $3 and only works on fabric.

I would try the sticky tape first. Perhaps you could make the cat a warm spot to sleep on a higher elevation that would be just as appealing.

You can put the radiator in a place where the cat can not reach it or you can also block off the radiator with a screen or fence so that the cat can not get to it and the heat can also get threw the screen or fence.

Wow, I'm from S.E. Texas so I've never even seen a radiator except in a car & know they get HOT. My cat senses heat, say from the stove top, candles, etc.. & stays away. I've no answer but sure hope someone does before the poor thing gets hurt.

Cats have very little cold and heat sensors around their faces and ears - this is why it is dangerous for them to nap beside a heater. Device a barrier of some sort to prevent the cat from coming too near the heater.

I wonder if you could place a fireplace screen around the radiator to help keep kitty from getting too close.

If your cat isn't smart enough to avoid a hot radiator, I don't think you can do anything for him.

put a favorite blanket or bed in a safe spot near it and let him lay there. if you cannot keep him away that way get a squirt bottle and squirt him every time he goes near it.

lay tin foil around the floor, cats usually don't like walking on that stuff...also, you could spray him with water when he gets near it.
