Wow, someone actually bought Microsoft Works that already had Office.
My advice would be to just return Works.

Microsoft Works and Microsoft Office are two entirely different applications. You can uninstall Office if you want to, or you can run them simultaneously. However, be aware that if your documents are currently in Word, Excel, or other Office programs, you will have to convert them to the appropriate format to open them in the Works Suite. The conversion program is built into Works to do this.

There is a difference between Office and Works, you can install both on PC, Works does not have the same high quality in the programmes as Office, but both can run on the same PC, although I do not see any point in having both

Now why would you go out and buy Works when you already had Office?
Anyhow, if your Office is legit, leave it there; Works does not contain a quarter of the features and often has trouble opening up older files.
No it will not overwrite your current installation, it will write its own folders to your hard drive.
