I'm a dog groomer and have been grooming for over 20 years. What I have always preferred to use on 'short-haired' breeds of dogs, and of course on my own lab is called a 'hound-glove' is similar to a curry brush used for horses ( and those work well too), difference with a hound glove is it is a glove. I like it because I can put it on and brush through the dog while at the same time giving them a good ol' rub down. I know that some pet shops carry them but refer to them as a shampoo mitt. They are great to use when bathing as well, helps to get more dead hair out while your cleaning your dog.

I have both a black and a yellow and if you do not brush them on a regular basis you will have hair EVERYWHERE. There is a brush called the Shed Ender and it works the best, primarily because it get the under coat. I also vaccume them which helps tremendously and did it since they were young so they love it. You really do have to brush them frequently the shed all year long.

It helps with most dogs because the brush should pick up the hair and they won't shed the loose hair. There are certain brushes you can get for different types of fur. You can either read about it on the packages or ask someone who works at your local petstore (and even bring your puppy into most of them).

Of course you should brush your black lab puppy. It is a great bonding experience and your puppy will learn to love it. It will make it a lot easier when you take your puppy to the vet too because he will be used to someone touching him all over. It is also a great way to reduce the amount of shedding that the puppy does.

Even though they have short hair, brushing helps a lot. I would recommend a shedding blade and a shed-ender or furminator. They all help remove the undercoat, which is what is shed by the dog.

I have a Chocolate Lab puppy also, and we brush him every day! It is fine to brush your dog even if it is young or short haired.

All dogs should be brushed. I have dobermans and I brush them all the time. When they see me get it they all come and line up patiently awaiting their turns. They have a lot shorter hair than a lab. Labs have a good undercoat and need to be brushed and combed to get rid of the dead hair.

Yes brushing helps... Labs have tighter coats to repel water but they shed just like the softer long coated dogs... And if you want your dog to shine! Shine! SHINE! Brush daily and buy some Lanitol to add to his food.

Labs are one of the worst shedders. You must brush them every day. Just because their short coated doesn't mean they shed less.
