If you poke a hole in the tip of it or snip the tip off, the pacifier will lose its effectiveness and the child will drop it on his own.

We used the Binky fairy. We had our daughter go around and collect all the Binkies so that the Binky fairy could come and get them for the little babies. She put them in a little gift bag before she went to bed and when she woke up the binkies were gone but in the bag was a new Buzz Lightyear doll (she never asked for a Binky again)

I wouldn't throw it away. It isn't the pacifier, it's the security he gets from it. I would little by little talk to him about being a big boy. Let him pick out a favorite sippy cup by himself at the store, and remind him at home that big boys love their sippy cups. The more focused you are on it, the more he's going to want to keep it. He'll give it up on his own when he's ready.

take it from him, hide it, give it to him only at naptime and bedtime, then gradually take it at naptime , then take it away at nighttime, jsut throw it away. There will be a few rough nights, but it is better than walking around at the grocery store with a five year old witha big honking pacifier in his mouth!!

I just did that with my daughter who is also 2 yrs old. We did it cold turkey at night. We told her that the binkie fairy was coming to take it, so that other babies can have it. We bought her a little toy and said the binkie fairy left it for her. She has been binkie free since.
I hope it works for you.
Good Luck

always keep them clean, bacteria grows at a fantastic rate on those things. My daughte had a dish of clean ones in he 2 yr olds room where he could reach them. The deal was. you want it , only in your bed. That took about a week. LOL good luck

Just take it away.......give him something else to
replace it, like A new special toy or something, only
let him use it when , he would usually use his pacifier.

Cut of the tips. Then continue cutting them back a bit every couple of days until he can't suck on them anymore. Just make sure your cuts are clean so that there's nothing hazardous.

Just take it away. it doesn't bother them as much as you think it does. Just distract him more during the day,Like play puzzels with him, read to him or just play his favorite game. Keep doing it for a month and they tend to forget about it.

Take it away when he's one ;-)
Seriously though. It's a lot tougher when they get older. We've just taken them away at 1, but my sis had good luck cutting it shorter and shorter, etc.
