What will heaven be like ? Here's a description that could change your life.
Many religions teach that good people will be rewarded at some later point in time beyond this present earthly life. The Bible also teaches about a world to come and a fascinating future reward. While many benefits can be experienced during this lifetime, every promise of goodness, prosperity or blessing that is recorded in the Bible will have its ultimate fulfillment in the reality of heaven. What will heaven be like ? No human mind is adequate to conceive its splendor but here is what is written in the Bible.
NO DISABILITIES, PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS, FATIGUE OR SICKNESS - Forget about cancer, aids, diabetes or any other disease or deformity. - Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame [man] leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. (Isaiah 35:5,6) But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31) And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein [shall be] forgiven [their] iniquity. (Isaiah 33:24)
NEW, IMMORTAL, REAL, PHYSICAL AND YOUTHFUL BODIES - No wrinkles, blemishes, bumps or scars. Perfect symmetry and proportion. - For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. (Philippians 3:20,21) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:52,53) And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. (1 Corinthians 15:49) Notice God’s promise. - His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth: (Job 33:25)
POWERS AND ABILITIES LIKE THE ANGELS - This is almost unbelievable when you understand from the Bible what angels can do. - For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. (Mark 12:25) Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. (Luke 20:36)
NEW HEAVENS AND A NEW EARTH - God has promised that His people will inherit the earth but it will be a new earth and a new sky which is referred to as heavens. There will be no more sea or large bodies of water separating people. - Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5) For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. (Isaiah 65:17, 66:22) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. (Revelation 21:1)
A SPECTACULAR METROPOLIS; THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE NEW EARTH - God gave John a view of this magnificent city and helped him to describe it in the book of Revelation. - And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:2) The city is a perfect square of pure gold 1500 miles in circumference; 375 miles long and 375 miles wide. - And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. (Revelation 21:16) A furlong is 1/8 of a mile. This city has 4 jasper walls that are each 216 feet high and has 3 gates in each wall. Each gate is made of a pearl with an angel standing at each gate. The names of the 12 tribes of spiritual Israel are written on the gates. - And had a wall great and high, [and] had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are [the names] of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. (Revelation 21:12) And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred [and] forty [and] four cubits, [according to] the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. And the building of the wall of it was [of] jasper: and the city [was] pure gold, like unto clear glass. (Revelation 21:17,18) A cubit equals one and one half feet. And the twelve gates [were] twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city [was] pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (Revelation 21:21) The city rests on 12 foundations with each foundation being a different gemstone.
- And the foundations of the wall of the city [were] garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation [was] jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. (Revelation 21:19,20) The throne of God and of Jesus are in the city and a river proceeds from this throne. On either side of the river is a tree of life bearing 12 different kinds of fruit each month. - And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:1,2)
CHILDREN PLAYING AND LEARNING - Children will no longer be in danger of abuse or neglect. - And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. (Zechariah 8:5) And all thy children [shall be] taught of the LORD; and great [shall be] the peace of thy children. (Isaiah 54:13)
TWO HOMES; A MANSION IN THE CITY AND A HOUSE IN THE COUNTRY; ENJOYABLE WORK TO DO - No rent or mortgage to pay. Jesus Himself promised the mansion which will be in the capital city and God promises the home that we will build with our own hands in the country. - In my Father's house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2) And they shall build houses, and inhabit [them]; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree [are] the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. (Isaiah 65:21,22) And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places (Isaiah 32:18)
NO VIOLENCE, DANGER, DESTRUCTION, DEATH, SORROW OR PAIN - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Revelation 21:4) Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise. (Isaiah 60:18) The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:6,7,9)
NEVER FADING ETERNAL BEAUTY IN THE REALM OF NATURE - The stunning colors and variety of flora and fauna will dazzle the senses. No destructive insects or pests. - For the seed [shall be] prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these [things]. (Zechariah 8:12) The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. (Isaiah 35:1) For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap [their] hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign [that] shall not be cut off. (Isaiah 55:12,13)
HARMONIOUS SOCIAL LIFE AND INTERACTION WITH OTHERS - No bitter disagreements, strife for self exaltation or disregard for the rights of others. - All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power (Psalms 145:10,11) And they shall come from the east, and [from] the west, and from the north, and [from] the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. (Luke 13:29) In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree. (Zechariah 3:10) But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make [them] afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken [it]. (Micah 4:4)
PRODUCTIVE, ACTIVE LIFE AND PLEASURABLE EMPLOYMENT - God promises pleasure in what we will do as well as satisfaction in meaningful accomplishments. - They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. (Psalms 36:8) Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. (Psalms 92:13) For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy [shalt] thou [be], and [it shall be] well with thee. (Psalms 128:2)
CONTINUAL EXTENSION, EXPANSION AND ELEVATION OF EVERY CAPACITY & FACULTY OF THE MIND -
Spending eternity in the presence of God will certainly have an effect upon our minds. - The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is] understanding. (Proverbs 9:10) For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6) Great [is] our Lord, and of great power: his understanding [is] infinite. (Psalms 147:5)
The scriptures reveal the existence of other inhabited worlds that God has made which we will be allowed to visit. Those who have cooperated with God throughout their lifetime to develop Christlike characters will finally receive that which only pure, holy beings can safely be trusted with. This takes place after the return of Christ and the final judgment. There are many ideas about future rewards that await good people but only the Bible teaches what you have just read and much, much more.
