We have insurance for everything else....when will they start offering some kind of insurance that would help pay for auto repairs? My SUV is getting on the older side and needs some minor repairs, but like everything without payment up front and in full, I cannot get it done! I wish there was kind of insurance for this. We have pet insurance, why not auto mechainc insurance! Do you agree?

They have it now. It's called "Extended warranty" and is available on most vehicles.

Well, how many mechanical repairs could you do for $150.00 a month? That's probably what it would cost you for insurance and the rates would go up as the vehicle got older. You would be wise to stuff about two grand into a savings account to cover any repairs as there is seldom anything on a modern vehicle that will break over this amount.
Besides -- there isn't a legitimate insurance company in the world that's crazy enough to sell a policy like that.

If you're looking for something outside the original manufacturer's warranty, well, older cars break down and wear out!

So the insurance companies - who, after all, are in business to make money - will sell coverage for your minor repairs when they think they can get enough premium for it to do it at a profit.

It's already out there and can be purchased at the dealership when buying a new/used car. Some insurance companies, like Geico, offer it as well. But it's reimbursement only with Geico. VW has a plan where you pay for all your maintenance upfront at 60%.

Extended Warranty on cars is considered a form of "insurance". However, unless you have followed ALL OF THE SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE (and can prove it) on your vehicle from day 1, they will try to weasel out of repairing your car when the time comes to use it.
