for a tiki hut look over the head of the bed. Cut a half round the width desired out of plywood. Cut raffia and staple around the edges of the board. Hang this on wall above bed with angle brackets. This comes out really cute. Or you can tie pieces of bamboo together to use as a headboard. Those old fashioned straw type window blinds work well. Use bamboo or straw mats as rugs. Brown wicker trunks go well in this theme and give extra storage. Top windows with silk vines. Add a parrot to the corner. If you can paint well do a beach scene with palm trees on one wall. Or just paint a palm tree on each side of the bed. Palms are really easy to paint. Have fun with it. If your child is over the age of four let them help choose what is in the room.

I would check out those oddball 99 cent stores they seem to have alot of hawaiian stuff. I threw an end of summer party w/that theme and paid im sure 1/4 the cost i would have at a party store or specialty stores..( what i meant by oddball is not the dollar tree or greenbacks but the ones that seem to pop up all over)

instead of using a headboard for his bed..you should use the top portion of what they use for a Tiki Bar.!!! Major Hawaian Touch!!
