one week

I think if you are off for more than one week you will need a sick note signed by the doctor.

If only 5-6 working days (if your week is a 5-6 day week) I think you can self certify that you were sick. Not sure if employer provides the form or if you have to get one from the doc surgery any way.

You dont NEED a sick note to be off sick, you need the sicknote to get statutory sick pay. for this you can self certify for 3-7 days, any more and you need a doctors certificate.
Your company cannot demand a sick note to explain your absence.

Hope this helps.

You get a `self` certificate for the first three days, which you fill in yourself. Your employer does not have to pay you for these days. After that you must get a sick note from your GP.
