You should go to a used bookstore and buy yourself an etiquette book, an english textbook and a dictionary, then spend some quality time with them.

Not necessarily....the last time a male friend offered me his hand as he was leaving (and I ignored it) he leaned in and gave me a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye. Made quite an impression! Maybe you should try that! I think the rules of etiquette prescribe that a woman offer her first before a guy attempts to shake hands, unless it's in a business setting. In that case, it's good manners to shake hands with both sexes. If you don't want to shake hands or kiss a girl on the cheek (like my friend did) try a light hug upon parting. Don't be so sensitive and quick to perceive what happened as an insult. The ehick may have been testing your social manners to see how you'd react and/or handle the situation.

A man should never offer his hand first for a handshake when the recipient would be a female. A female has the right to either extend her hand to offer a handshake, or abstain from them. This is just common courtesy and etiquette.

It depends on whether the young lady is permitted by her religion to touch the young man. Orthodox groups of various religions do not permit physical contact OF ANY KIND prior to marriage.
Before you jump to conclusions and get insulted, check out the situation.

She would need to smile and nod. That usually works. The fella needs to realize that in this day and age, not everyone shakes hands anymore. Too many germs.
