I can't really comment on Haggard, because I really don't know that much about him.

Some general observations/thoughts:

1) Christians struggle with sin just like anyone else.
All people have a sinful human nature, and different people struggle in different areas of their lives. The fact that a Christian will screw up and make mistakes isn't a surprise.

2) People are too quick to put others on a pedestal.
Christians are supposed to be followers of Christ...not some guy with a TV show and a charismatic personality.

3) Power & money often corrupt people.
The Christian faith was never intended to be about building an "empire" or as a means to riches. Unfortunately, many have used & distorted it to promote their own personal agenda. Thus, there will be phonies who claim to be Christian, and there will be those who were Christian but succumbed to the lure of the temptations surrounding them. Sad...

4) The celibacy requirement in the Catholic Church is a man-made obligation.
Not intending to bash Catholics in any way, but there are many who aspire to be Priests who do not have the gift of celibacy. This situation is simply a recipe for disaster...

(I'm confused by the wording of your question. I hope my answer is relevant.)

The assumption that homosexuals are evil is, I think, incorrect. Yes, Ted Haggard is troubled, but his crimes appear to be 1) drug addiction, and 2) homosexuality.

While different people might make different decisions about the sinfulness of these things, few would claim they hurt other people directly. And if you're not directly hurting others, then you're not so much evil as you are sinful. And Christianity believes that we all sin, and need God's forgiveness for the sins we have done.

I'm not sure you can honestly make assume that more evil people are attracted to Christianity. Remember, most people follow the faith of the people they live amongst. Few people discover Jainism or Sikhism in the United States, and few people discover Roman Catholicism while living in India or Pakistan. Sure, it happens, but it certainly isn't the norm.

So Ted Haggard, to me, doesn't prove Christianity's wickedness or incompleteness. I do believe that Ted Haggard's downfall does show some problems with his particular brand of Fundamentalist Christianity, but not because it spawned any Evil in him. I think his church should be ashamed by how they abandoned him, or threaten to abandon him if he didn't live up to their standards.

The next time you are driving through town, stop and count the number of churches you pass. Seems like there is one in almost ever block. Stop and think about how many Christian ministers (with many churches having more than one) there are in most American cities. The overwhelming majority of those ministers are decent, moral, Godly people who are giving their lives for a cause that they believe in.

There are some ministers every year who fall into sin. Even amoung Jesus' 12 original disciples, one of them fell away. It happens. But let one of them fall, and suddenly the reaction is that ALL of them are living immorals lives and molesting children.

The facts are that the clergy have by far the lowest rate of molesters, etc, of any profession there is. The number of Catholic priest who have been charged with crimes is about 0.2% of the entire profession. Compare that to the national average last year of nearly 4%. The ministers are far far below the national average.

Have their been evil men who have gone in the ministry? Yes. Have then been ministers who have fallen into sin? Yes. Is there any excuse for their actions? No. It is a horrible thing.

But to paint ALL ministers as evil or sinful or perverts because of it is unfair.

The sexual immorality that Ted Haggard was involved in was with another consenting adult and yes, it was sinful.

The Catholic priest that were involved in sexual immorality involved little boys (all under age...and of course none with consent.)

There's a difference in a pedophile (attracted to children) and sexual immorality with an adult.

One is illegal and also a sin (pedophilia) and the other is sinful.

Haggard really did nothing wrong in my book except being a hypocrite. But these child molesting priests need the death penalty though – not a retreat in Ireland.

Money! TV Evangelists make million of dollars. Olson takes in 3000 per speech and then another 3 or 4 arrives in envelopes.
the live in mansions and live like kings. all they have to do is look holier than thou and it works. But they are as corrupt as any other rich man and can't keep their pants on and sometimes get caught. So did Baker.
Why people believe that giving money to rich people makes them in with god is a mystery to me.

The money involved. The archbishop of Boston lived in a version of Buckingham Palace. Cardinal Cody had $250 million to play with. Power and money do not corrupt. It is that evil and corruption gravitate to money and power.

I am not an authority, but I believe that the evil people are attracted to "serve" because it offers some protection. They are looked at as experts in their field, so we naturally follow them. Unfortunately, being in that position offers them a safe platform for their obscenities.

I believe that unfortunately people label themselves as Christians but don't practice this at all...I think that all churches are corrupt in one way or another and the only way to truly be a christian is to practice what you preach...
Churches preach that you should do unto others as you would have done unto you, but as soon as something is publicized about you than you are condemned from your church...it's a big joke really.
Christianity also preach from the bible and in the bible it states you are not to judge thy neighbor...it is not our job to do this...only God can judge me/you/others, but so called Christians are very judge-mental when it comes to this...
To be a true christian I believe it's necessary to "Do Unto others as you would have done unto to you." and to not judge others or try really hard not to judge others...and to remember repentance.
Repentance is not to apologize and than do it over and over and over again...it is to try not to do whatever it is you have repented for.
I could go on forever about this but I'll keep it short :)
Great question by the way :)
