I would use SMT technology wherever possible. Most of the time, the SMT equivalent of a through hole model is a lot smaller, meaning you can fit more onto a smaller amount of space. This will lead to less cost per unit. SMT's are usually a little cheaper than through hole as well.

Unless you do your own circuit design, you will have to hire or partner with a circuit designer. You get the components form electronics distributors, and sometimes the machinery as well. I think you'll find that, sooner or later, you will have to use a combination of technologies. Circuit routing can get to be a real problem , and sometimes impossible with single-layer boards. You will have to deal with financiers and bankers to get the money unless you are independently wealthy.

Dear ,

It is nice to know that you are thinking on these lines while still being a student.
To begin with, the technology is called as Surface Mount Technology.
Please refer to www.prosemtechnology.com for one of the companies which supply the equipments and you may ask for Mr. Rahul to help you further.
