It can, but it doesn't have to. Kids can be ruthless and tease each other, so you have to be aware of that. Because of Dakota Fanning, your son could end up being teased. Ariana is a pretty common name now, so I don't see that as an issue.
My friend named her daughter Dacy, which I think is pretty, but she will grow up with people assuming it's Daisy, and getting it wrong on paperwork, etc. I am sure my son, Will, will have some issues with people assuming he full name is William, whe its not.

I guess a name could affect the way a person is in that hearing or saying the name could make them feel something. Your son may associate Dakohta with indians and therefore act like his percepton of an indian. I believe that a name can affect a child a lot of ways, depending on how he or she preceives the name and it would certainly have an effect if it was a weird name that people make fun of. As far as the name itself. No. The name alone can't affect anyone. Only the perception of the name can have an effect.

When I was pregnant, I found this cool website. www.kabalarians.com They have the theory that a persons name really DOES affect who they are. Its this whole mathematical/psychological connection thing. They explain it better on the site. The name analysis for me is weirdly accurate, and not vague like a horoscope. Same goes for everyone else I have tried it on, with nothing more than just a minor difference here or there. Here is what they have to say about your childrens names....
Although the name Ariana creates the urge to be self-expressive and happy, it can cause a overbearing, materialistic approach that frustrates higher humanitarian qualities if it is not combined with a balanced last name.
This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the liver, bloodstream, and reproductive organs.
The name of Ariana has given you organizing ability as well as an expressive, positive, and self-confident nature.
You are able to work well with people and can capably direct their activities.
You enjoy music and art, and love to meet and mix with people.
An appreciation for quality has prompted you to strive for the best standard in dress, material possessions, and choice of food.

Although the name Dakohta creates executive ambitions, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the reproductive organs, worry, and mental tension.
The name of Dakohta creates a mature, self-possessed, and responsible nature.
You are an organizer and leader who exercises sound and fair judgment in all your dealings, both business and personal.
The name is a very practical influence, causing you to take your responsibilities seriously.
At times it is difficult for you to see the lighter or more humourous side of a situation because of your serious attitude.
Your highly capable and efficient nature make it difficult for some people to approach you.
Although you desire to serve your fellow man, you may at times lack tolerance for those who are less self-assured and whose approach to life is not as positive and optimistic as your own.

There is religious teaching that the name of a person contains his\her essence and that at the time of naming parents receive some slight form of prophecy.
It`s up to the person to either live according to or in contrast to his name.

Basically, no. Your socio-economic status and your values as a parent are what forms your child's personality. Check out the book "Freakonomics" by Steven D. Levitt, there is a whole chapter on names of children. It is a scientific analysis and not new age, airy fairy crap.

That's so weird -- I was going to use my friend's son's name as an example -- he is Dakota Excalibur and YES it has affected him a lot! So odd to see your son has almost the same first name! LOL!

I think so. yes.
I've found that children with uncommon names seem to be smarter, and way more unique.
Children named after celebs often turn out not so great....
But that's just an observation I've made and I'm sure it's a bit off.
