Bible says god formed man from dirt, and while man was sleeping took a rib bone out of man to make woman.
whats the significance? why didnt god create us from nothing as he did everything else? are we not good enough? or is he equating us to dirt to him? or is this just some fun little bedtime story?

carmelite, refer to Genesis, we were created FROM something, not out of nothing.

There is a theory that God formed Israelites/Hebrews or whatever they want to call them out of dirt and spoke the rest of us into existence. They were supposed to be cultivators of the earth, whereas the rest of us were supposed to be hunters/gatherers.

When we die we turn right back into that dust we were originally derived from, don't we?
As far as the rib bones go?
Most humans have 12 pairs of ribs for a total of 24 individual ribs (though some people have been known to have only 23 ribs or in relatively rare cases 25 or 26). Normally, our ribs are numbered in pairs, 1-12.
So there is the possibility that Eve could have been made from one of the ribs of Adam, if you're one of the people that have more than the 12 pairs, you inherited your extra from eve.....consider yourself blessed!.
Why doesn't anyone ever put two and two together?
God = created earth
Scientists = big bang theory
why can't the two beliefs ever co-exist?
Who said there wasn't a big bang when God created the earth?

God did not create everything from nothing. Where did you get that impression. Does that make logical sense and/or is it consistent with proven natural law? I think not.
God organized the elements of the universe creating matter from what was apparent nothingness. Natural law as far as men have proven them are consistent and a part of Gods plan, knowledge and wisdom. He has a greater ability to use truth (which is unchanging) than we yet have, that is a fundamental point in our progression toward enlightenment.

It is mostly just a story, nobody but God himself and the angels know how Adam and Eve were created. It simply made sense that if our body turns into dirt when we die, than we must have been just dirt at one time too.
Which doesn't make much sense seeing as there is no dirt in a woman's womb...

Instead of feeling insulted, I am honored to know that man was made as special as he is by God's hand through something as insignificant as dirt. Man has been raised from dirt to being His special creation.
Without God, we are quite insignificant, just like dirt.

He also created us in His image:
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
