Honestly, the bike theme might be a little too limited a theme. Really, how much can you do with it? I'd go with the game show theme since there are so many different ones and everyone is bound to like at least one of them. You can come up with games based on that and it would be easy to decorate. Think of all the lights and glitz! Congrats.

I like both ideas. The naming the table with biking terms is good. Here are some more: handlebars, gearshift, safety helmet, brakes, spokes, sprockets, finish line. You could name some tables after famous bikers, and decorate the tables with their colors. Or use the names of famous cycling races. Even bring a racing or touring bike in. Decorate the cake with a bike. You could make the cake part in chocolate and white checks, ask the bakery if they can do that. Do they use flags like the auto racing does? Yellow, and red and checkered? Use that for more decorations.
If you are going to do favors, maybe a water bottle, racing decals, reflector tape. Go to your local cycle store for some ideas.
The game shows are a good idea, too, you could actually play some of the games. Name the tables after famous game show hosts, or the games. You could do the cake up a a case, like that show Howie Mandel hosts.
Congratulations on your Bar Mitzvah.

It sounds like that could be alot of fun. Here are a few ideas that might work for you:

How about the history of bikes. Like all the different types from the past: bicycles built for two, unicycles, hot wheels ,tricycles,
motorized bikes. There would be all sorts of things available for ideas at the library or your local bike shop could give you the name of books to check out.

You could use a projector and show film of different bike races and types of bikes as a back ground that just keeps runnung throughout the event. Just have it loop back to the beginning after it finishes each time.

You could do something like different bikes that you use as you grow. From babies to elderly.

For centerpieces you could have a big bowl or vase with a smaller one inside with a candle in it. Between the two vases you could put gears and links etc..You could use racing starter flags enlarged for tablecloths or at least in the center, under the candles.

For party favors, you could fill a bag with a bike motif on it with biking gloves, pads, books on biking, even noise-makers for the spokes for the kids. You could have a few bikes in the lobby for people to check out as they enter if you know someone with cool bikes or maybe a bike shop might set up a display for you if they can leave business cards, too.

The buffet could have things in helmits and use wheels for under the big serving bowls.

Good luck and have a wonderful party.

I think that if you do biking you should name every table brand names (Schwinn, Huffy, Mongoose, etc.) I also had my Bar MItzvah in June of 2005.

Don't forget about tzedakah from your Bar Mitzvah loot. My big present was a bowling ball. That was March 4, 1961. My rich Uncle gave me $5.00 for a new baseball glove. Even then, a good glove cost about $20.00.
