I have a 10 year old persian cat called Sinatra. Since just before Xmas he has been sick almost every night. I've tried changing his food, starving him for 24 hours and giving him chicken and rice, we've been to the vets and he's had blood tests which didn't show anything unusual so the vet gave him an injection to stop the vomitting. First one was a 14 day one, which worked - no sickness for 2 whole weeks. On day 15 he started being sick again, so back to the vets who then gave him an injection that should have lasted a month. That was last Thursday, but on Monday night he started being sick again and has been sick every night since then. I feed him on Whiskas pouches with a small amount of dried food for him to nibble on. He doesn't go out, has been wormed, he's still likes to play and as soon as he's been sick he goes to eat some more. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I just don't know what to do next.

Thanks to everyone who's replies, just so you all know we are going back to the vets tomorrow. The blood tests he had showed only a slight rise in the white blood cells and the vet said there was nothing to worry about. There is nothing that has changed in his environment and when he's not being sick he's as happy as he always was. I've had cats for nearly 30 years and have never had anything like this before with the others.

If I were you, I would take him back to the vet asap. That is the only thing we can recommend, as non-professionals in this area. I love cats, we have 4. I'm sad to hear about Sinatra's problem and I do hope he'll be better soon. Please, take him back to the vet though!

If it were my cats, I'd go for another opinion. Obviously something is very wrong with poor Sinatra and the vet you've been taking him to just can't figure it out. The poor thing's stomach muscles are probably hurting so bad from throwing up so much. I don't really know what it could be but I'd go elsewhere. Good luck and I hope Sinatra will be okay.

Am not a vet but, considering all you tried so far, and the many good answers you've received here ..... I would suggest that there is something in his diet .... do you give him milk at all? If the answer is yes then you may find that he has an intolerance to the milk itself .... or does he possible have a stomach ulcer? ..... or maybe something simple like fur balls?! I would imagine that a persian, like all cats, is extremely fastidious about their appearance and therefore is permanently cleaning and washing .... the type of fur they have means fur balls are almost an inevitable problem .... try grooming him twice a day, every day, .... see if this alleviates the problem.
I wish him well.

The next step may be xrays to try to see what it going on in the GI tract. If nothing is found on xrays, ultrasound may be next. There is also more bloodwork that can be done.
It is a frustrating series of events, but alot of times, just like in human medicine, it is a matter of ruling things out before they can make a diagnosis. You just may need to do more diagnostics. If your family vet can't figure it out, talk to them about seeing an internal medicine specialists, especially if your kitty starts having other problems, like diarrhea or stops eating.
I am a vet tech, and I have never heard of anti-vomiting medications that last a month. They do not have any specific length of time that they last. It all depends on what is causing them to vomit in the first place.

I'll try to answer this the best I know how. My cay used to vomit a lot, we found out not to give her any people food, only cat food. Also mt vet put on a Hill's Prescription Diet food, there are many verities of this food, she started with one called "td" its for dental now she is on the Feline "md" but I still give her a few of the dental to keep her teeth clean. If your vet doesn't carry this type of food you should go on the Internet & typt in Hill's Prescription Diet, they have many different kinds, for all kinds of problems. It a very highly recomended Co.sold in many countries, wouldn't do any harm to try, also cotact other vets, information is every where, just hope your poor kitty gets some help.

I once had a cat like that. No problem was ever found and years later he is still alive not to mention fat. He is perfectly healthy execpt for the vomiting as long as your kitty keeps his weight up and you keep going to the vet to monitor for other problems, he should likve along and healthy life with this annoying problem. Don't worry about it unless it affects the rest of his life. I feel your pain, though, it IS a pain to keep cleaning up after him.

well i started feeding my cat proper meat for a while because i found that these tin can foods are just not the proper food a cat needs... when my mom was younger they never had to take her cat to the vets about the cat being sick etc.. and she fed it proper meat so i believe it could be that but i could be wrong but its worth checking out the diet you are giving you cat ...but again i am not totally sure but good luck and i hope he gets beta soon

I am assuming the vet checked all of his blood cells and whatnot..possibly checked for cancer? I hope that is not the case.
I have a female 3 year old that had a similar problem..we switched her to Natural Balance cat chow in the dark pink bag and not a problem since..just a suggestion.
I also suggest giving him spring water, or using a pet fountain to filter your water.
