I am looking for suggestions on fish - something similar to Tilapia, with no bones and no fishy smell...

FISH! YUMMY! Contrary to belief, fish isn't all stinky and gross to eat. If you can get past Tuna, then you can almost eat any variety of fish. Tuna is probably one of the most smelliest, pugnant fishes out there!

If you like Tilapia, then go for cod/haddock, Grouper, Catfish (really good when cooked with spices, like curry!). Fish is really the "original white meat" per se. You can change the way a fillet can taste by using complimentary ingredients, like Rosemary for example. If you have a piece of Tilapia...boring! Add a pinch of rosemary and a squeeze of lemon and PRESTO!!! You won't believe you are eating "fish", and how wonderful and flavorful it can be with an added 3 seconds of work!

With fish, try them all, because unlike chicken/pork/beefs, you can greatly alter the way the flavor comes out without adding a heaping amount of calorie and fat rich sauces and marinades. If you are looking to drop weight, maintain weight, or are just going for a more healthy lifestyle, I recommend using fish as a good source for protein.

Just be mindful of what you buy, if it stinks, it's bad. Fish should have relatively NO SMELL when bought fresh. So if you pick up a piece od grouper, and it reeks, refuse it and move on to a store where they maintain freshness, or get it fresh and cold.

I hope this helps you, and happy fishing!

Just FYI, fresh fish does not smell fishy. It does not smell at all.

Also, fresh fish have clear eyes, distinctly patterned skin and tight scales.

Also, all fish have bones, your butcher or whoever preps the fish for sale is responsible for deboning your fish. I always run my fingers along the filets and use a small pair of pliers to remove and remaining bones. It's really no big deal. Salmon and large sea fish have larger bones, obviously, so they are easier to bone than small fish, that have tons of tiny bones. It's nearly impossible to completely debone a small fish without tearing it apart.

Shellfish have no bones, only cartiledge slivers which also need to be removed.

Good luck.

Cod is a very good light non-fishy fish. Any fresh fish shouldn't smell fishy. cod can be battered and fried or baked with a craker crumb topping. when you buy it at the market all of the bones should be removed but do a double check just in case.

Mahi-mahi, salmon, grouper and shark steak are all wonderful fish that are not fishy smelling or greasy.

Tilapia is still my favorite fish but the above mentioned are great too. The trick to fish is the way it is prepared. Check out www.allrecipes.com they have some great recipes for all the above mentioned fish. Be open-minded and give a few of these a try. You might find your favorite new fish! :)

Good luck and have fun! :)

Red Snapper, or Ling Cod. Both are large flake white fish and delicious. You may have to hunt around for Ling Cod. Try an Asian food market -guaranteed fresh.

Talapia, you can move up to Salmon, and from Salmon its anything you want. But really depending on how you cook it, it wont taste or smell fishy. Try marinating in something

You should try Mahi-mahi. It is almost chicken-like, not in taste really, but consistency. There are a few bones, but they are large and rare. It's a nice fish for grilling or frying.

Try petrale sole-you may have to go to a fish market to find it, but it is delicious. Be sure you get petrale, not dover or rex sole.

Saute it in butter and sprinkle lemon over it, or roll it in crushed macademia nuts, saute in butter and use lemon.

Bon appetit!

Mahi-mahi is your best bet. Put lemon on it if you still taste the fishy taste.
