That the ONLY... ONLY thing you have to go on that mary was impregnated by the holy spirit, is HER words...? why would she claim an angel made love to her?? that'd be stupid. u guys think mary was too stupid to concoct a lie to save her sons life? how many women today would lie about something if it meant saving their unborn/newborns life?

I'm not even so sure that Mary said it. Yeah, it was "written" ... but I'm still not convinced.

Ah, the Immaculate Deception. A religion based on a lie. Is it a stretch to believe that a woman would lie about the paternity of her child in order to save face? Ever watch Maury Povich? Why not say it was an angel, if she said it were a mortal, she's had to come up with a name. Of course Joseph would back her up, or he'd look like a fool. Maybe he'd rather believe in this "miracle" than acknowledge that an infideity took place. All the prophecies before Jesus' birth don't hold any water with me because people tend to bend the truth to show their support for a belief - kinda like "I told you so." The thing for me is the "Immaculate Conception" leaves so much room for lies, hoaxes, and distorted facts. And without this immaculate birth, doesn't the basis of Christianity crumble???

Christians believe what they want to, regardless of reason, science, lack of proof, etc. That's because faith and science are two totally different things and it's ok to subscribe to both, one with your heart and they other with your head. The Bible is not to be interpreted literally, it's all figurative.

No where in the Biblical text does it say the Holy Spirit made love to Mary. Where did you come up with that?

There are actually two accounts and not just one. Mary and Joseph. You forgot an angel appeared to Joseph to confirm what Mary had told Joseph.

Ummm... Joseph knew. Matthew 1:20
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

And this whole making love thing--is getting ridiculous, comparing God to man once again.....tisk tisk!

The Bible says that other people were told too - like Joseph. Mary never claimed that an angel made love to her.

According to scripture, Mary's word is not the only proof. St. Joseph had a dream in which God (or was it and Angel?) told him the same thing.

EDIT:
Here you go. It was an angel.

Matthew 1:18 - 24

18This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins."

22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"[d]—which means, "God with us."

24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

When you are impergnant by the creator of the universe, you don't need sex--a human concept-- to do it.

Peter in his book talks about praying until you 'Birth' something.

i.e. Don't quit praying. Pray until you get an answer. If it's according to the will of God and his spirit lives in you (if you're saved), then an answer will come.

And the will of God is far better than what I tried to plan for my life.

I don't know what book you read that says Mary said an angel made love to her. You should read the Holy Bible.

Great references to Scripture, Jeanmarie. Thank you very much.

1) Mary never said an angel made love to her.

2) An angel appeared to Joseph and told Jospeh to believe Mary.

3) Mary's baby went on to fulfill all the predictions of who the Messiah would be.

Not many, as they would just have an abortion.

Mary is not the only one who says she concieved of the Holy Spirit, Luke is the one who wrote it down.

Blessed be the name of Mary, virgin and mother.

I know enough MEN today that would kill, starve, and die 1000 screaming deaths to protect a child... even one that isn't their own. There's no doubt in my mind that would allow me to believe that if Mary existed, she was telling the truth.
