You might want to consider a job in the education field if you are looking to be home with your kids every nite and during summer vacation. Helping in the cafeteria- or becoming a school bus driver are viable options as well as teaching assistants. This way you can become close to the kids and also get to know who they are around when they are not around you.

Well, my situation is very different from most and i don't know if it will help. i have worked at the local YMCA in the childcare area since my son was 9 months old. i was able to keep him in there with me and take care of him WHILE i took care of the members' kids. He is 5 now. Recently it was brought to our attention that due to the fact that our program was not licensed (the parents have to be on site at all times though), i could not keep him in with me for more than 2.5 hours a day. This may be different in your state. He has started kindergarten so now i work when he is in school and pick him up when i get off. It is a very flexible situation and it has worked out wonderfully for both of us. When he gets out of school, i will be signing him up for camp at the Y and for another local camp for during the day so i can work. i suppose other parents put their kids in daycare or hire a babysitter for summer when they have to work. Also, i understand that there are some large companies out there who actually have on-site daycare for employees kids. That way you can work, then go have lunch or break with your kid, and you are very nearby if they need you. Unfortunately i have not found any of these companies so i do not have any examples to give you. But it would be worth the hunt. i sure hope that this has helped you somehow! Best wishes.

My mom is a single parent and has been all my life. She used to have many jobs and I would have to go to a babysitters. It wasn't bad. She would pick me up after school and be able to take me to appointments and during the summer i would go to church camps and stuff like that. On school holidays i went to the community centre with other kids and played there.
You could get a part time job, or a job with minimal hours or flexible hours

If you have a regular 9-5 type job, you put your kid in a daycare that has an after school program. They pick up your kid from school and keep them there for two hours until you can you and pick them up. They also have summer programs for when school is closed.

Currently, I am a stay at home mom with a home-based business. I really enjoy staying home with our daughter, and still helping financially. In the next couple of months, my dad is opening a store, and I will manage it, but only during the hours that my husband is home to be with our daughter. Except for the rare occasion, our daughter will always have one or both parents home with her at a time. Because I am and will continue to be my own boss, scheduling isnt an issue with me. I mold my work around my life, not my life around my work. We hold strong values that being parents is a gift, and we will not squander it by paying someone else to raise our children. My sister in law only sees her son 2 hours a day, and I just could NOT live like that. Why even have kids? Good for you for being a stay at home mom. You should look into doing daycare. You could do it out of your home. It would bring in extra money, allow your child to socialize without missing out on the values and lifestyle you want him/her to have. Then you are in control of your hours and your life. Or, you could try something in the home-based business realm too. Email at starsalso@yahoo.com or instant message me at mrs.mama21@yahoo.com if you have any questions. God bless!

I'm nurse and work at a very large inner city trauma hospital. My kids are 3 and 2 and its nearly impossible for me to afford day care for them both! Pluse my job is 40 minutes away and 12 hour shifts! What day care has those hours!? Luckily, my mother has been able to keep them for me so far. I'm hoping to get into school nursing when my kids start school! Good hours!
