My husband and I just moved to the St. Louis area a few months ago. Since then, I've been checking out some places for our anniversary. In the Missouri area I came across Hermann, Missouri which is surrounded by vineyards and wineries. A nice place to stay there is Hermann Hill: http://www.hermannhill.com/
There's also the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Check out the Lodge at Four Season's Resort: http://www.4seasonsresort.com/

You might also want to consider Chicago since it's not that far. Chicago has wonderful hotels, museums, shopping, food, and music. While there for a wedding we went on a romantic dinner cruise you may be interested in: http://www.odysseycruises.com/index.cfm

Also Traverse City, Michigan is very romantic as well. It is surrounded by magnificent bay views and vineyards as well. When we go there we always stay at Chateau Chantal: http://www.chateauchantal.com/

If you need any more suggestions, just let me know. Hope this helps...

Our work schedules are crazy right now - so we decided to go to Calistoga, CA. We are going to go for a few nights in a B&B that has gotten great reviews - I checked out the Best Places to Kiss travel guides. We will go wine tasting, have spa treatments, golf and eat at the French Laundry. We are really looking forward to it. We considered Vegas but then thought this is our honeymoon and we want something that is more about us/romantic and not just partying down with a town of people around. Another idea we had was to start a drive down highway 1 - this runs along the CA coast - start in San Francisco and go all the way to San Diego then fly home from San Diego. Stop in Monterey/Carmel, Big Sur, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, just make your way down south. that would be fun too.

Ok,

Vegas-Lots of things aside from the gambling even if you don't like to dance

NYC- Shows and a lot of sightseeing

Hawai'i- Shows and lots of sightseeing also taking the wonderful scenery

Alaskan cruise- Have known people who went, and they had a ton of fun on it.

A lot of tour companies have programs that travel around the U.S. based on different themes. You can also try those out. They also have some discounts and different packages that go along with the tour. Trafalgar is one travel companyand there are a few others. Definitely check with a travel agent on those.

Washington D.C.-Sightseeing

Disneyworld or Disneyland-Both are a ton of fun and both are also close to a number of other entertainment places and theme parks.

San Diego- Shopping, clubbing and and the beaches.

Arizona (Grand Canyon), Tennessee (many honeymoooners go to Gatlinburg or Piegion Forge), Alaska, NYC or upstate New York, and the list can go on and on....Just research different states to see what they offer. If you like the outdoors stay at a National or State park where outdoor activities are in abundance. If you like the beach figure out if you like a quiet and private beach or active beach with plenty of people around. Do you like history go to Washington D.C. and tour the museums or Williamsburg VA. to visit colonial history. Big cities like Chicago and New York offer spas, museums, great resturants, broadway shows, shopping, site seeing and whatever else may tickle your fancy.

Just choose what you would like to do whether it is just taking it easy and relaxing or on the go with theatre plans and dinner.
Ask yourself where you have always wanted to go in the U.S.?

Small towns (quiet hideaways)

Eureka Springs, Arkansas. A cute little town with lots of charm, nestled in the trees, with quaint bed and breakfasts.

Red River, New Mexico. Beautiful little village surrounded my evergreens, with the river flowing through it. Has an old fashioned western feel to it.

Miami is the best place. I lived in Ft Lauderdale, FL for six months before moving back to New York and I would always drive to Miami. Its a great place. Nice wheather, and Miami beach is really nice. There's lots to do and nightlife there is fun too.

DISNEYWORLD!!!!! It's not cheap, but it is so much fun without kids!
Book through a travel agent, stay on a Disney property and definitely get the Disney Dining Plan. And no, I don't work for them! I just got back from a long weekend there and I can't wait to go again.

Niagra Falls? Or, is that too passe? Vegas is nice. And Grand Canyon.

Maybe find websites for tourist areas? Or talk with a travel agent?

It would depend on when you get married but I do suggest Vegas. There's lots of things to see and if you plan to stay just a couple of days, plan it to be between Monday-Thursday, cheap rates on the hotels and that would give you more money to spend shopping.

Congratulations!

if you're like me, young, still want to have lots of fun, and on a tight budget..i would suggest Myrtle Beach, SC..thats where I'm going..love that place.

Edit..or like people are saying I've been to gatlinburg too and love that place..its a good, calm relaxing place with good food, good shopping, and it is so purty..I love to go spring and when the leaves start to change color.
