I was very close to having this procedure done some time ago. I decided not to go for it after much thought and consideration. What decided me against it was the fact that there was only a 50/50 chance of improvement in my condition (due to other health factors involved). Instead I had an intensive course of back rehabilitation. It worked and (touch wood) I have had comparatively little pain in 4 years.

I had this done too, about 10 years ago. I wish you an easy recovery and a pain free life. It is usually a very successful procedure and most patients are happy they did it. Unfortunately for me it took the doctors so long to diagnose the problem that I now suffer from chronic sciatica.

Just one. Ask your surgeon to put a blood drain in the surgical site. I've had four back surgeries, and if there is excess bleeding, you don't want any hematomas near your spinal column.

I know physicians are useful and most people use them too much. If there is a massage therapist you trust please see them.
Other than that (because you will probably want it later) read a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain and how to get rid of most pains yourself.
