Female cats typically have their first heat around the age of six months, which usually lasts for 5 to 7 days. Cat's heat cycles are light dependent and they usually have heat cycles every 9 to 13 days from January through October, though some indoor cats exposed to constant light times will cycle all year.

do not spay too early. Heat in dogs or cats
doesn't happen until they are 5-6 mths. Don't
wait too long though, but sometimes if you
spay too early you can cause other problems.

*We usually spay a cat when it is around 6 months of age. This timetable is variable, the important point is to perform the surgery before it goes into heat. Increasing daylight encountered in late winter and early spring stimulate female cats to go into heat.*

Get your kitten 'repaired' at the vets before the heat.. around 7-8 weeks old.
