The Bible tells us that God created the angels and that at some time in the distant past there was a rebellion in heaven and many of the angels fell. Apparently, it was the elect angels that did not fall (1 Tim. 5:21). The Bible says that angels were created by Christ (Col. 1:16), that they carry out the will of God (Psalm 103:20; Matt. 6:10), they worship God and Christ (Phil. 2:9-11; Heb. 1:6), are wise (2 Sam. 14:20), mighty (Psalm 103:20), holy (Matt. 25:31), and innumerable, (Heb. 12:22). However, angels are not to be worshipped (Col. 2:18; Rev. 19:10; 22:9) since they are creatures.

Angels did have free will otherwise they couldn't have rebelled against God.

Fallen angels are those angels who rebelled against God along with Lucifer an archangel who became the devil. The following verse is often quoted in reference to the evil one.

"How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! 13"But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. 14‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’" (Isaiah 14:12-14).

The Bible doesn't say much about Satan's early days because God doesn't really like to talk about Satan.
Isaiah 14 gives us the only detailed story about the event. Apparently, it did happen after the creation of earth, because the Bible records that Satan landed on earth and immediately got to work turning earth into his territory.
So it happened after the creation of earth, but before the day Eve ate the fruit. That is the only real timespan we have.

I asked a similar question about the timing of such things in relation to creation...I got no consistant answers, they were all over the place. I guess that means xtians don't know. Some say its in the bible, some say its not, before creation, during, unrelated, mysterious ways, etc etc. Good luck.

according to the bible satan was an angle. in the bible angels did not have free will so there for it is impossible for satan to have disobeyed god. this is a contradiction in the bible but people just happen to ignore this. in islam satan was a jinn. well is a jinn. the jinn and man both are given free will. when satan refused to bow to adam because he thought he was better then man kind god became angered with satan and casted him ouut of heaven!
