I'm sick of the lies. This isn't the first time the government has lied about something big.

Dr. William Marcus, an EPA senior science adviser and toxicologist stated in "Food and Water Journal," 1998, " Fluoride is a carcinogen by any stand we use. I believe EPA should act immediately to protect the public, not just on the cancer data, but on the evidence of bone fractures, arthritis, mutagenicity and other effects."

I know very well the inclination of people in high power to make a profit at people's expense and to use manipulative information to keep those in the media and scientific community in compliance. Fluoride was a menacing air pollutant until large companies found out they could get rid of it in water and say it was the holy grail for teeth decay prevention.

Even if we accept that the FDA operated under pressure from the government to accept fluoridation of drinking water a few decades ago, you are still left with a LOT of explaining to do.

For example, to date NO country on the planet has rejected water fluoridation on the basis of health concerns. What's more the Center for Disease Control released a report only last year that suggested that fluoridation of drinking water reduced cavities by 29% (link 1). If your position is that a secret conspiracy is forcing fluoridation upon us, then your conspiracy will have to be world-wide - influencing every country on Earth - and still dominant in its influence to alter reports made both long ago and recently.

To make matters worse, one of the common criticisms of fluoridated drinking water is that fluoridation is only effective topically. Which is to say that even if you removed it from water, you would ESPECIALLY want to have it in toothpaste and dentists' offices. So drink bottled water if you like, but re-formulating your toothpaste as well would seem to be misguided at best.

Keep in mind that there is evidence the fluorine is a NUTRIENT. Which is to say that if you removed every trace of it from your diet, it would have negative effects on your health (link 2). And not just your dentition. This doesn't show up too much because fluorine is naturally in lots and lots of foods. So good luck avoiding it altogether.

Still, it's a free country, and if you want to avoid fluorine in your toothpaste and water, I think you should have every right to. Two of the more popular brands of fluorine-free toothpaste are 'Nature's Gate' and 'Tom's of Maine' (links 3 and 4, respectively). Both are typically sold in health-food stores. Both (and many similar brands) go with the 'add only the minimum and natural ingredients' course... so certainly no fluoride. Hope that helps!

im glad to see people getting smarter about the flouride issue. That stuff is toxic. Water is best in its purest form without pollutions or anything added!

Health food stores sell non-flouridated toothpaste. I like Tom's of Maine - good stuff.

Well I guess I could have added some details: (since I got a thumbs down for warning people about a toxin and recommending a toothpaste!)

Flouride comes in different forms - and in its natural form, such as flourine in foods or naturally occuring in water - I don't think moderate doses are harmful. But the stuff they add to drinking water is a factory byproduct that companies must pay to dispose of, so they try to keep the world convinced that it needs to be in our water supply. Here is a link with all of the evidence against that form of flouride:

Tom's of Maine makes several flavors of unflouridated toothpaste. You can find it at your local health food store or the like (or on-line).Some Trader Joe's carry it but may only have the flouridated type. Sometimes turns up in Big Lots stores.
We have had our children use it when we can. Less or no sugar, nice flavors (apricot, cinnamon, spearmint, fennel) and no flouride. Also comes in unflavored. Good luck.

Well I don't buy that. I am 76 years old and lived in a small town in west Texas ,there were no dentist there ,later we found out that it was because of the natural fluoride in the water. It didn't hurt me.
