It could be allot of things. I don't think that would cause the problem tho. What do you feed your dog? Do you switch brands alot? He could have allergies.

On a side note, pets stores cell little tablets your dog eats to help train him to stop eating his feces.

It's not that big of a deal. A lot of dogs are coprophagous (have the habit of eating feces). This may not be the actual reason he is having stomach troubles. A maldigestion or malabsorption syndrome may be the main reason, and he is eating his feces in an attempt to get additional nutrients that his body is not absorbing in the first pass. Another reason may be that he is chronically hungry, either from not enough food, or from not having enough food in the past (Being stray at some time in his life. A lot of dogs adopted from animal shelters have this problem). The first step you should take is to bring the dog to the vet, to see if there is something wrong with his digestion. You may be asked to bring a sample of the dog's feces. Also you may want to feed him a higher quality food. If there's nothing wrong with the dog's digestion, the vet can prescribe a medicine that will break your dog of the habit. Best of luck to you!

Not likely. More likely is that the dog is eating unusual things because it feels queasy already. Dogs that don't feel well will eat feces, grass, leaves and so on. Dogs that are feeling perfectly fine will also eat feces. It's just a thing that dogs do sometimes and unless the behavior is annoying to you, don't worry about it.

The most common cause of indigestion in dogs is eating table scraps. If you feed your dog anything other than IAMS dog food, then you can expect some indigestion. You should switch to a premium dog food as soon as you can. If you still see the problem, then take your dog to the vet and have them checked for worms. You might also observe the dog's waste and see if you can notice the tiny peices of tapeworms which will be apparent if the dog has an active infection.

As a previous dog owner i would say yeah. Thankfully it didnt happen much but when it did he would usualy end up being sick and often both ends.. Obviouse if the illness persists consult the doctor. Obviousely the feces could contain parasites so the dog might get worms or whatever.

Also dont every let you dog eat grass (no not dope!) - can affect it in a matter of minutes or less!!

Best of luck

You can buy stuff to make it taste really bad??? And what does it taste like regularly??? And who tried it out to decide that it worked.

Some dogs eat their own feces. If the dog does not have anything wrong with them and the feces is really fresh then it won't cause a problem, but if the feces has had a chance to have bacteria introduced to it can make them sick.

You know, I pcik up my dog's poop every day. If I could train him to eat it so I didn't have to I would consider it ;-)

This could be from several different things. And yes it could cause diarrhea, my suggestion is take you dog to a good Vet. this could be caused by something liking in his diet. You didn't say how old your dog is, a lot of puppies do this, but I still would have him checked.

If he is doing that, chances are something is lacking in his diet, or there is a mineral or vitamin his body is struggling to process from the food. Find a good quality food, and ask your vet for advice for supplementing minerals in his diet

Polly - there are many, many different kinds of dog food that are MUCH better than IAMS. Innova, Evo, Wellness, Wysong, Merrick, Flint River Ranch, even Nutro and Nutro-Max are much better for your dog.
