isn't haggling good? can you not get a car for a lower price by haggling? then why do so many people rave about how great saturn's "no haggle" policy is?

Because haggling adds time and stress to the purchasing process, while degrading trust. Everyone who has to 'make a deal' for a car always has to wonder if they got taken or could have gotten better. Haggling opens the door to racist or other prejudicial pricing because the buyer never knows what the price 'should' be. This is an unacceptable situation, especially with something as important and expensive as a vehicle. Everything else we commonly buy has a fixed price, so there's no good reason for cars to be an exception.

By removing one of the most stressful elements that causes people to put off buying a new vehicle, Saturn makes people more willing to buy a vehicle sooner.

By removing a barrier to trust, they make it more likely the customer will buy instead of 'shopping around.'

By taking out one of the most time-consuming parts of the purchase process, Saturn increases the efficiency of sales personnel.

By taking the focus off price and dealing, sales people are able to spend more time and effort on selling options and bonus services - which actually turns more profit for them.

I only wish Saturn made pickups.

Haggling is Good. They do not know what the actual car is? In fact getting the dealers to out haggle each other on the internet is better. Just go to Edmunds.com or similar and get quotes from local dealers and let the games begin by playing one against the other. The car market is so bad right now most dealers will do just about anything to get the sale.

When a dealer says "No Haggle" What they're really saying is:

"Hi, we're going to screw you whether you like it or not, please don't complain, and we reserve the right to look insulted if you walk away"

It's a load of BS being fed to the market and they're hoping the brainwashing will take.

Its good for Saturn because they dont have to discount their cars. Its good for people who are afraid of negotiation because they dont have to. Just like Autonation that preys on fear and gives minimal discounts to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

You know what the deal is when looking at the car. Take it or leave it.
