Is it our responsibility to cater to their need to convert us and to go to their Church and be subjected to gawking and gossip? Is it our responsibility to live by their morals and convictions?

I just think everyone needs to have a shot and a beer and settle the h@ll down.

We're all just looking for our own version of peace and happiness.

D'you think there were any Christians at Woodstock?

I'm betting there were. Sure looks like everyone got along there. Of course, I'm just a nostalgic old fart.

If everyone is convinced that they're "right," then why not just sit there and enjoy your "rightness?" No need to throw sand.

Some atheists would do well to back off a notch and some Christians would do well to ease up on the smugness. Just pray for the poor, misguided atheists and leave it at that. God will answer your prayers, will He not?

Alright...resume fire....

I'm outa here...

My only responsibility and purpose, as an Atheist, is to preserve Knowledge and protect Mankind from Slavery. We, Atheists, don't preach, just share so that 'those who have ears to hear' may be awakened; for all the others (bigots) instead, there isn't much we can/are willing to do. Main thing is to make sure that Knowledge won't get lost and that on our Planet there'll always be a portion of FREE Mankind (no matter how big that portion is).

It is healthy, and wholesome for all people to be more mindful (aware) of how we treat one another. Christians, muslims, jews, mormons, apostolics, born again believers,
jehovah's witnesses, etc. etc. AND Atheists and Agnostics shoud equally choose to be much more Patient, and especially more Tolerant with one another, not criticising, harshly judging, nor condemning one another. Even jesus, the son of mary and joseph
said, "Do NOT judge, criticize, and condemn a person..... how can one judge.... & try and take the speck out of another's eye, when they have a LOG in their own eye {it would take a lifetime to take the logs out of our eye, in order to be qualified to Judge or condemn another),
then he went on to say, IF a person judges, criticizes, or condemns another - "that person is a Hypocritical Lukewarm person, only worthy to have the dogs and pigs to trammple on them"
Quoted from the Amplified Bible, Matt. 7:1-5 Christians, and all people as well, should practice what they preach, teach, and use as their morals.
I AM ATHEIST, but do read the bible at
times, especially Proverbs, on the power of a person's words. We are to build others up, and to encourage each other. We are all part of the Human Race, and are the same in that we all want Happiness and peace of mind.

"If we come across a Question, which is
senseless, and degrades another, we have
the choice, to disregard the Question, not
bringing our attention to it."
Most people actually find it more beneficial, and encouraging to spend more time in other areas, such as the Philosophy, Psychology, and maybe even the Relationships sections, because in the Religion/Spiritual Sections people most often are only tearing each other apart with their critisizing words on condemnation. (Even christians {who differ a little from each other] attacking one another)! This harmful treatment toward anyone, whether they be christian, muslim, etc., Atheist or not,
should not be. By treating others this way, we will never have true happiness or peace of mind

Not trying to nail anybody on a cross, but am simply trying to share some helpful, optimistic information with everyone, including myself - as I have Starred this Question.

Thank You, have a great week, & weekend.

While I don't think it falls upon us to cater to them, I think our conversations could take into account how emotionally appealing it would be to have a supernatural guardian or an afterlife. These are ideas that help people manage anxiety, and although they are logically improbable, they do provide some comfort for those who have trouble imagining life without them.

However, I don't expect atheists to accept or endorse anything approaching Christian morality. That costs us too much integrity. I don't believe because I cannot do so and maintain my intellectual and emotional integrity.

What are the emotional needs of Christians you are speaking of? The compassion to take ridicule for sharing the message of eternal life? If you open your eyes Christians are not your enemies but on the other hand I apologize for any pushy Xtians you have encountered as this should not be representative of all Xtians.

BTW It is not your responsibility to do anything for Christians Jesus did it all.

the only thing atheists owe to Christians and any other religion is respect and tolerance. i am atheist. i do not go out of my way to bash Christians, but in a discussion i state what i believe. i would not go to a christian church but if i was with a group of people and they decided to start praying, which happens often in a catholic school, i am quiet and i don't disturb the others praying.

No need. You have the right to listen to whomever you wish. It's hard to focus away from the background noise, but nobody has any obligation to listen to anybody elses religious beliefs.

This doesn't mean be a cold person, people are people no matter what belief they are... which should really make them think about how (un)signifigant thier beliefs are.

Saw a very similar resolved question...though that one was better. Religion fills important emotional needs, for sure. ANYONE would be a fool to ignore that. There may be emotional holes that have no plug, though, and anyone would be a coward not to acknowledge that possibility.

Please. The entire country that I live in is based around the "emotional needs of christians". Christians are always being catered to, and their needs are looked at before the needs of any other people. Need an example? Look at gay marriage. Xtians say its wrong, so it doesn't happen ... and no one else's needs are taken into account. They get their own way every where else, they won't get their way with me.

To heck with em. Don't let them get to you. Most are just playing a brainwashed program for you so maybe you should pity them, but who says you gotta go to their church? Morality is not what's written in a book, it's what your conscience says. And you don't need religion to Know right from wrong!
